We support what the EU is trying to achieve with EUDR. However, the complexity of the traceability requirement puts trade between the EU and U.S. at risk. American Forest & Paper Association broke down the traceability requirement and why U.S. producers cannot comply with it. https://bit.ly/3XyxRVf

👉 EU #Deforestation Regulation was confirmed and published in the Official Journal of the European Union and will come into effect on 30 December 2025 I haven't followed the drafting or final content of the #EUDR closely, however, I did hear talk while on mission in a lower income country that the government would "give all companies the required permits to state that they are not active in deforested lands" I hope the EUDR has thought of how to close these loopholes - as we know permits and other documents of "proof" can be often "purchased" - esp. in countries with weak "rule of law". Deforestation is a major issue and I hope that this regulation can contribute to reducing it where possible (and not just look good on paper). #watermanagement #waterpollution #watersolutions #bestpractice #sustainabledevelopment #sustainablefinance #geopolitics #waterpollutionawareness #impactinvestment #sustainability #watercrisis #waterrisk
It's official: the EUDR is postponed by 12 months After months of uncertainty about whether the EUDR will be watered down or if the delay will be effective on time before it enters into play by default, the European Commission, European Parliament, and the Council of the European Union have now found an agreement to delay the EUDR by one year. On December 23, just before Christmas, the 12-month delay of the EU Deforestation Regulation was confirmed and published in the Official Journal of the European Union. The amendments include: - the EUDR is postponed with effect from 30 December 2025, for SMEs, the regulation shall apply from 30 June 2026 - the risk classification of countries that have a low or high risk will be introduced no later than 30 June 2025 The updated regulation, including the 12-month delay, will enter into force tomorrow, December 26. Merry Christmas! 🎄 👇🏼 You can find the link to the official document below.

Understanding trade regulations is vital for businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, to access global markets. Non-tariff measures like food safety rules and technical regulations can protect public health but often create high compliance costs for exporters. UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD)'s Trade Analysis and Information System database makes it easier to navigate these rules, offering insights to policymakers, businesses, and researchers to lower trade barriers and improve market access. 🌿 Attending the "EUDR Insights: Working Together for Responsible and Deforestation-Free Supply Chains" This event hosted by Preferred by Nature here in Paris was incredibly valuable— especially coming just a day after the recent EUDR one-year delay and updates. The discussions were both timely and insightful, focusing on how to drive forward responsible supply chains. Here’s a quick recap of the agenda highlights: 1️⃣ EUDR Latest Developments and Enforcement Preparation: The event kicked off with a deep dive into the newest EUDR changes and the steps needed to prepare for enforcement. There was a strong emphasis on aligning with the updated timelines while maintaining momentum. 2️⃣ Implementing Robust Due Diligence: The first panel underscored the importance of clear and actionable due diligence processes. The need for reliable data was a recurring theme, highlighting how essential it is for informed decision-making and supply chain transparency. 3️⃣ Digital Platforms: Opportunities and Limitations: A lively discussion explored the potential of digital tools to streamline compliance. While digital platforms offer great promise in terms of geolocation and data management, the human contact trough interviews and on-site visit remains vital. 4️⃣ Legal Production and Risk Assessments: Conducting thorough risk assessments was crucial to ensuring legal and responsible sourcing. The focus was on understanding regional complexities and applying context-specific measures. 5️⃣ Certification Schemes and EUDR: The event wrapped up with an analysis of how certification schemes can play a role in meeting EUDR standards. The debate was clear: certifications are the base but they must be part of a broader strategy of transparency and rigorous due diligence on-site. The message from the day was clear: moving forward requires a commitment to data-driven, transparent processes that enable responsible decision-making throughout the supply chain. #EUDR #Sustainability #DueDiligence #SupplyChainTransparency #DeforestationFree #SustainableBusiness #PreferredByNature
