Residents, workers and travellers in northern regions of Western Australia are being warned to protect against mosquito bites in a recent health alert issued by WA Health. There is an elevated mosquito-borne disease risk across a wide area of northern Western Australia, particularly in the Pilbara, Kimberley, Gascoyne and Midwest regions. This alert follows the rise in Murray Valley Encephalitis (MVE), a virus which can be transferred to humans by mosquitoes. ⚠️ Mine operators in affected areas are reminded to ensure their health management plans cover mosquito-borne diseases and mosquito control programs on site are effective. Protect yourself by: • wearing long loose-fitting clothing • applying mosquito repellent • keeping vegetation around living areas short to discourage mosquitoes. Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), including trachoma, the world’s leading infectious cause of blindness, thrive in areas with limited access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). WASH interventions are essential across the full spectrum of prevention, treatment, management, and care for NTDs. However, it is estimated that 785 million people lack access to basic water services, over two billion people do not have access to basic sanitation, and three billion lack hand and face washing facilities at home. This #WorldWaterDay, we highlight experiences from Ethiopia, Nigeria and Uganda to improve cross-sectoral collaboration to achieve global targets for clean water and sanitation and #beatNTDs. Farmers are facing hidden challenges that often go unnoticed. Resistant pathogens, close contact with animals, and limited protective measures leave farmers vulnerable to serious health risks, including zoonotic diseases and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). But this reality doesn’t have to be inevitable. Let’s bring these issues to light, and work towards a future where every farmer can thrive safely. #samayu #ajustworld #onehealth #farmers #healthstruggles #supportfarmers #amrawareness

One of the potent methods of eradicating NTDS is the WASH program. The WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) program plays a crucial role in eradicating Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) by improving access to clean water, proper sanitation, and hygiene practices. Contaminated water sources often harbor parasites or pathogens responsible for NTDs like Guinea worm disease, schistosomiasis, or trachoma. By providing clean water sources, promoting better hygiene practices, and establishing proper sanitation facilities, the spread of these diseases can be significantly reduced or eliminated. Improving #WASH infrastructure also contributes to better overall community health, aiding in the prevention and control of NTDs. As individuals, stakeholders and Government agencies, ensuring adequate sensitization on NTDs and provision of accessible clean water can go a long way in the #fightagainstNTDs

Loteria Card 44: Stagnant water, or "agua stagnada," is a common issue that code enforcement officers encounter, particularly in areas with poorly maintained pools, clogged drainage systems, or neglected properties. This seemingly harmless issue can quickly become a major health hazard, as stagnant water provides the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes, which can carry dangerous diseases like Zika, West Nile virus, and malaria. Code enforcement officers work to identify and address sources of stagnant water, educate property owners about the importance of proper maintenance, and take action to eliminate these potential health risks. Many times, we have the privilege of working with our county or supplementary Vector Control. By promptly addressing stagnant water complaints and proactively inspecting properties, code enforcement plays a vital role in preventing the spread of disease and ensuring the health and well-being of our communities. It's always good practice to remind property owners and residents to check pots and buckets for stagnant water. 4LEAF, Inc. https://lnkd.in/eGkCic86 A mosquito net is a protective barrier made of fine mesh fabric, typically designed to keep mosquitoes and other flying insects out. It is used to create a physical barrier between the insects and people, protecting individuals from mosquito-borne diseases and providing a more comfortable sleeping or living environment, especially in regions where mosquito-borne illnesses are prevalent. Mosquito nets are a simple yet effective tool in preventing the spread of diseases carried by mosquitoes, and they are an important component of public health initiatives in many parts of the world.
