15MW V236 certified - how much can it handle?

15MW V236 certified - how much can it handle?

The demand for wind techs continues to grow, and it's an excellent career option, with good pay and no college needed (!) for those who are willing to travel. Nordex Group is installing the first of its concrete-and-steel hybrid towers in Finland. The unique design has several advantages - including potentially housing data centers inside the towers. Vestas new V236 has been type certified. With its 115M-long blades, the robust turbine may not be storm proof, but it's able to generate energy during sustained high winds. Allen Hall , Rosemary Barnes , Joel Saxum and Philip Totaro discuss its engineering and economic appeal and considers how many could get built and where the factories might be. Speaking of building, the $4.7B Pier Wind project at the Port of Long Beach is ambitious - between environmental reviews and other pesky realities, how will it unfold?

Decades worth of technology and know-how from the oil and gas industry clearly translates to wind projects. In one example, PES Wind highlights how Bardex Corporation is optimizing port facilities to prepare for offshore development. Our Wind Farm of the Week is in Fluvana, TX. Commissioned in 2003, Brazos Wind Farm is currently undergoing a complete repowering, to the tune of $200M. Listen to find out more about that project and all the week's wind news!
