5 must have traits in the role of Business Development.

Hello everyone,

After a month's gap from blogging due to extremely busy schedule, I finally decided to take some time out to get back to blogging. As an individual who has been involved in the area of Business Development, I chose to blog on the subject. In my journey so far, I realized there are 5 traits which are extremely critical in order to be 'successful' in the field of Business Development.

1) Extreme passion for product or service offered: One of the most 'overlooked' factors as of today. In order to grow the business effectively, the person marketing the product has to be extremely passionate about it. One has to firmly believe that the product or service offered is 'the ultimate solution' people are looking for. How would iPhones create a roar in the market if people marketing the same had no passion or belief in the product itself?

2) Aggressive Networking & Relationship Building Skills: Any individual wanting to be successful in the field of business development has to have a strong internal drive to be networking with as many people as possible and possess a skill set to build a sound relationship with every client. The zeal to offer solutions to people around (with the product or service offered) 24/7/365 make a huge impact on the individual's success rate and bottom line of the business.

3) Discipline & Persistence: In simple terms discipline is about 'doing the daily grind' such as making calls, meeting clients, sending emails, discussing proposals, networking; so on and so forth on a daily basis with tremendous focus and determination. It is this act of discipline and persistence that sets the difference between 'ordinary' and 'extraordinary.'

4) Dollar driven: While some may argue on this, from my experience I personally believe and have noticed that a person driven to increase the amount of green paper (dollars) in his pocket so as to live a good lifestyle and accomplish his financial goals, will by far outperform the person who is not. The desire to create sound wealth pushes the individual to 'do the grind' irrespective of the situation/circumstances.

5) Commitment to enhance overall personality: One of the most important traits of any successful person for that matter. One has to ensure that not only is he working hard 'on the job'; but also giving 100 % in other areas of life that will positively impact his overall personality. For instance, working on fitness goals, reading something new everyday, learning a new musical instrument etc. all of which indirectly bring about the positive outcome 'on the job' as well.
