What I gained from '2016 Gitex Tech Week!'

Hello everyone,

Most of you living in UAE would know about the 5 day Gitex Tech Week 2016 that took place recently (from 16th-20th Oct). This exhibit held at the World Trade Center attracted around 100,000 visitors from 150 different countries; with over 4000 firms participating. These figures clearly reveal the amount of value people (globally) place on this event.

Having immense passion for tech and actively working in this particular line, attending this event was a 'no brainer.' It was great to see the amount and more importantly the quality of firms that had come down showcasing their products and solutions at the exhibit. The product lines had everything related to tech ranging from PC protection services for corporates to ERP solutions to trendy mobile phones and laptops for end users and of course the most talked about 'immersive technology' product variations such as Virtual Reality headsets, 360 degree professional cameras etc.

The exhibit not only provided an entry for well established companies to expand themselves in the region, but also a tremendous platform for lot of startup founders to showcase their business and build connections (and possibly raise funds) with many investors who were attending the event.

I personally had two fantastic experiences at Gitex Tech Week. One was with regards to the concept of 'Robo Cafe' where one can place an order on a digital screen and have his/her beverage instantly made by a robotic machine (check the video on my personal fb page) with no human element involved whatsoever in the entire process. It only made me realize that as we go ahead more and more things will get automated as 'tech' has absolutely no boundaries. In other words, something that was never believed to be possible until yesterday, is actually taking place today.

The 2nd experience was at HP booth where a virtual reality video of a roller coaster ride was created. I was given Virtual Reality (VR) headset along with headphones to 'virtually experience' the ride. Personally, I am not a big fan of roller coaster rides for obvious reasons, yet I decided to give this one a shot as I honestly did not take it too seriously for it was virtual. However, I was completely shocked after the entire experience i.e. the way I felt was nothing different than physically being in the ride. The kind of movements and thrill I went through those 5-6 minutes was something completely unimaginable.

To summarize, what I came back with after attending Gitex Tech Week was something extraordinary. It gave me an opportunity to be acquainted with new technology and innovations that are coming up, understand and gain adequate info on different type of startups in the region. In addition, it was a great platform to network with big players (both in the region and globally) in the field of technology. The exhibit also allowed me to gain better insight on 'immersive technology' and its value addition to businesses in specific industries. All these gains incorporated along with two memorable experiences (mentioned above) made the exhibit a great learning asset for me.

A must attend event for all the individuals in the field of tech and/or ones who are simply passionate about anything related to technology.
