Unlocking growth opportunities

Through a $150 million convertible preferred equity investment in Aecon Utilities by Oaktree Capital Management's Power Opportunities strategy, Aecon has strengthened its consolidated balance sheet and created a flexible standalone capital structure and strategic platform for Aecon Utilities to harness growth opportunities linked to the energy transition in North America. Oaktree's investment and 27.5% ownership interest represented a $750 million enterprise value for Aecon Utilities at the time of the transaction.

Crossing the finish line

Aecon teams have achieved several exciting project milestones in collaboration with our project partners and clients – a testament to the hard work of our employees:

Kicking Horse Canyon Phase 4

After three years of work, the conversion of a narrow and winding two-lane section of the Trans-Canada Highway in the Kicking Horse Canyon east of Golden into a four-lane highway is nearing completion. The upgrades provide a safer and more reliable journey for all using this important thoroughfare.

“Improvements through the Kicking Horse Canyon are a marvel of engineering and have earned industry awards for design and skilled construction,” said Rob Fleming, B.C.’s Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “Everyone working on this phase of the project should be very proud of what they've accomplished. The contractors and workers deserve our thanks for completing this challenging project in very difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions during the months of high summer heat and the bitter cold of winter.”

Bow River Bridge Twinning

In Calgary, the Bow River Bridge Twinning project reached substantial completion in October. Following a busy summer and recent rehabilitation and paving milestones, the bridge now offers full traffic availability. This incredible milestone was celebrated at an event with Alberta’s Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors, Devin Dreeshen. The project is a key component in the completion of the Calgary Ring Road and will provide vital transportation infrastructure for growing communities in the Greater Calgary Area.

Highway 401 Expansion (Mississauga to Milton)

Major work is now complete on the multi-lane Highway 401 Expansion from Mississauga to Milton. The highway improvements and lane additions spanning 18 kilometres (including HOVs) will help fight gridlock and keep goods and people moving across the Greater Golden Horseshoe.

We’re #AeconProud of these achievements and the people that made them possible. Congratulations and thank you to those who have been and continue to be involved with these projects.
