  • Meet Team FPHNYC!

Dear Friends,

Something that is becoming an annual tradition that I enjoy so much is getting to share with you each year’s roster of Team FPHNYC in the TCS New York City Marathon!

This is FPHNYC’s third year as an Official Charity Partner of the Marathon and we've assembled an amazing team, including a runner from the NYC Health Department, nonprofit peers, teachers, and financial and healthcare professionals – all running to raise funds to expand the NYC Health Department's essential maternal health programs and services. This includes the pilot Maternal Home Collaborative, which will provide vital coordinated care for Black women and birthing people and their infants.

Whether you're a seasoned runner or champion in cheering from the sidelines, everyone can be part of the Team FPHNYC spirit.  Read on to get to know our runners and donate to their individual fundraising pages (or, if you don't know which runner to support, leave it to chance with a spin of our wheel of names!).  And spread the word! Every contribution, big or small, will help pregnant New Yorkers and their families thrive.

Warmly,

Sara Gardner , Chief Executive Officer

Meet Team FPHNYC

Ryan K. Abbadi (He/Him)

Ryan Abbadi is aiming to complete his first marathon. As a collegiate athlete, Ryan always used running as a means of training, but his earnest interest in the sport didn’t take off until he moved to New York. Ryan has held roles in finance, strategy, and, most recently in business operations, where he leads a team at Spring Health. When he isn’t working, training, or golfing, Ryan enjoys exploring the city with his partner and their English Bulldog. Ryan is thrilled to be running this year’s NYC marathon in support of maternal health!

🌟Fun Fact ➡️ Ryan went to high school in Rome, Italy. His family lived there for four years 🏛

Allie Birmingham (She/Her)

Allie is a native New Yorker with a lifelong goal of running the NYC Marathon in memory of her aunt. Allie grew up inspired by strong female leads in her life, her mother and her aunt, both of whom ran the NYC marathon over 10 times. Allie is a yogi, a photographer, a reader, and last but not least, a runner of over 15+ years, addicted to the mind/body connection. Ready to rock the 2024 NYC Marathon!

🌟Fun Fact ➡️ Allie was once hired as an extra in a horror film for her scream! 🎬

Dutch deCarvalho (He/Him/They)

Dutch deCarvalho is a New York City public school teacher and first-time marathoner. He began running a year ago and completed the United Half Marathon this past March. Born and raised in New York City, "Marathon Sunday," has long been one of his favorite unofficial holidays, spending hours each year cheering on runners. Dutch could not be more excited to be running his first marathon, for such an important cause, in the hometown he loves!

🌟Fun Fact ➡️ Before becoming an early childhood teacher, Dutch was a dancer who toured with two different NYC-based dance companies. 🌃🗽

Brigit Gardner (She/Her)

Brigit Gardner is currently working for AHRC as a Skills Coordinator part-time while working towards her master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She started getting into running shortly after graduating with her bachelor's in 2019. Now, 5 years later, this will be her second marathon! She ran the NYC marathon in 2022 and is excited to take what she learned through that experience and implement it into her training for the 2024 NYC marathon.

🌟Fun Fact ➡️ Brigit is a swimmer turned runner. She swam for 14 years before giving running a try after college. 🏊♂️🏃♀️

Megan McNamara (She/Her)

Megan McNamara is excited to be running her 2nd New York City Marathon with FPHNYC to advance maternal health programs and the Maternal Home Collaborative. While pregnancy is one of the most exciting times of a woman’s life it is also one of the scariest, particularly for Black women in the U.S. Megan’s own pregnancy complications opened her eyes to the inequalities in pre-and-postnatal care, turning her into an advocate for equitable healthcare access to all women. Megan also helps to advance racial equity through her work at a non-profit consulting firm. When not running she enjoys exploring with her family.

🌟Fun Fact ➡️ Megan has a real passion for needlepoint!🧵

Sebastian O'Neill

Sebastian O'Neill is a private equity investor living in Manhattan. He's only started running long distances in 2022, but running the marathon has always been his lifelong goal. His personal motivation for running this is for his father who ran 14 marathons on his own.

🌟Fun Fact ➡️ Sebastian's family is Puerto Rican and is fluent in Spanish! 🗣️

Ciara Ramirez, MPH (She/Her/Ella)

Ciara is a passionate community health advocate working at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, in food and nutrition access and programming. Her interests include frisbee, cycling and running, and using all five boroughs as her playground. She’s long prioritized physical activity, in all forms, to support her mental and overall physical health. She hopes to motivate other brown and Black women of color to take up space in the outdoors and move their bodies in whatever way feels best. The NYC Marathon will be her second time running 26.2 miles. Until then, catch her outside training all summer long!

🌟Fun Fact ➡️ Ciara has skydived from 10,000 feet in the air! 🪂✈️

She has completed many races, and enjoys frequent runs with friends.
