David Cameron, MD, CMO of Hint Connect and #directprimarycare doctor at Pure Family Medicine, gave us a tour of his practice today. "I had two patients scheduled today and had interactions with about 16.” (It is 1pm) This is the key to #directprimarycare. Clinicians' schedules stay open due to smaller patient panels and the ability to care for patients virtually/on the phone rather than just through 15 minute in-person visits. When patients need care, they get it. No need to leave work, wait days or weeks, or see the first available provider who you've never met. He also said “This is the best practice ever!" What % of employees are willing to pick a new #primarycarephysician when their employer offers #directprimarycare? Most brokers and HR leaders think the number will be low--historically employees have had the strongest, longest lasting relationship with their PCP. In actuality, we see 50-70% employees will switch to a DPC in year 1. Why? - 👋 Their beloved PCP has left the system (retired (/retired early), left medicine, transitioned specialties--it's hard to be a PCP these days! -😡 😬 They were dropped by their practice due to inactivity - 🙅♀️ They can't get in to see their PCP due to long wait times and overcrowded practices - ⏲ Poor experience with their current PCPs--short visits, only being able to cover 2-3 concerns per visit, impersonal interactions 👆 👨⚕️ Side note: These are the same reasons PCPs are leaving the system and starting #dpc practices--the system doesn't work for docs either.
