Elizabeth Diller, founding partner of Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R), will present the opening lecture of the fall Architecture Lecture Series on Friday, Sep. 13, on The University of Kansas campus in Lawrence. Regarded as one of the most influential architects in practice today, Elizabeth Diller's provocative, discipline-defying work has no less than upended previous ideas about how architects, designers, and artists can engage the world. Diller founded DS+R with Ricardo Scofidio in 1981. In the decades since, the studio has created art installations, operas, pavilions, museums, and large-scale planning initiatives that have transformed New York City. Projects include The High Line, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, The Museum of Modern Art, The Juilliard School, School of American Ballet, Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, The Broad, and the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. Named one of TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in 2018, Diller has received numerous awards including the Wolf Foundation Prize, Smithsonian Institution National Design Award, The James Beard Foundation Restaurant Design Award, Architects’ Journal Jane Drew Prize, and the first ever MacArthur Foundation fellowship awarded for architecture. Architecture students at The University of Kansas are empowered to turn imaginative ideas into functional built works that impact our university and local communities. Last year, third-year students in Eiman Graiz and Faysal Bhuiyan's design-build studio used parametric design, computer modeling, and hands-on construction to transform the entrance to KU's East Hills Designbuild Center. Designed and built entirely by students, sculptural brick and steel screens now provide shade and an expressive new entrance to the largest academic design-build facility in the world. 💡 Learn about KU Designbuild programs and projects: https://lnkd.in/gT67tZtJ #designbuild #architecture #design #parametric #computermodeling #architectureschool #designschool
