Ship-to-ship (STS) transfers hold a crucial role in maritime operations, making cargo transfers between vessels possible and reducing port congestion. Monitoring these activities is essential, especially for detecting Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing and other illicit operations. Our talented Sales Engineer M. Furkan Oruç has just published a technical tutorial that details the process for doing exactly that! 📊 What's in the tutorial? ➡️ A step-by-step approach to detect STS transfers from AIS data. ➡️ Insights into how you can use Spire's Sample AIS Data to recreate results. ➡️ A Python-based solution that anyone with basic coding skills can implement. Whether you're a maritime professional or simply interested in working with AIS data, this is a must-read! 💻 Check out the full technical blog here: https://hubs.li/Q02VCzWQ0 #AISData #SpireMaritime #ShipToShipTransfers

Is your maritime data resilient enough to support mission-critical operations? In the rapidly evolving maritime domain, the resilience and quality of your Automatic Identification System (AIS) data are vital for ensuring safety, security, and operational effectiveness. For defense institutions and government agencies, high-quality AIS data plays a pivotal role in maintaining operational superiority, managing risks, and enabling strategic decision-making. At Spire, we prioritize data resilience to empower organizations with reliable AIS data. Here are three essential factors to consider: ▶ Source Integrity: Engaging with trusted AIS providers is crucial. Spire’s global network delivers over 80 million AIS messages daily, ensuring comprehensive and accurate coverage for informed decision-making. ▶ Real-Time Validation: Our advanced RF signal detection technology validates vessel positions in real time, allowing you to act confidently on critical information for navigation and security. ▶ Historical Data Analysis: With access to over 100 billion AIS messages dating back to 2010, our extensive historical archive enables thorough trend analysis and enhanced situational awareness for strategic planning. ⚓ After a three-day strike, the International Longshoremen’s Association and the U.S. Maritime Alliance announced that the United States #portstrike has been suspended and a tentative agreement was reached. In the day or two leading up to the strike, there was a brief surge in vessel arrivals as companies likely rushed to avoid the impending disruption. However, port arrivals dropped significantly as the strike began. During the strike, port capacity reached near-saturation levels, severely impacting operations. With availability plummeting to below 10% across several ports, the situation was particularly dire in New York, where availability dropped to a mere 3%. With port operations resuming, there is now an impetus for the ports to drive greater cost efficiencies with the expected increase in salaries. 👇Check the link in comment to discover how Spire’ Port Events can help you streamline operations during such disruptions in the future. #spiremaritime #aisdata #portoperations
