The Ruah Centre for Women and Children – Western Australia’s first consolidated, purpose-built support facility for women and children affected by #domesticviolence – is now complete. The facility is the first of its kind in Western Australia, functioning as a consolidated hub for holistic support services. These services encompass counselling, mental and physical healthcare, alcohol and drug support, legal aid, education, and crisis accommodation. While the services are available to all women and children, there was particular emphasis on ensuring the centre felt culturally safe and inclusive for First Nations women. #domesticandfamilyviolence #familyviolence #DFV

A survey of more than 3,000 migrant women by Unions NSW has found 51% have experienced #workplacesexualharassment with their bosses among the biggest perpetrators. 3 in 4 of those women did not report the sexual harassment to anyone, over fears about jeopardising their immigration status or being punished, and half ended up quitting their jobs because they felt like they were in danger. #genderedviolence #genderbasedviolence #sexualassault #sexualviolence

Eden Hoffer writes: "In Canada, #intimatepartnerviolence (#IPV) is an epidemic. Approximately 44 per cent of women who have been in an intimate relationship — or about 6.2 million women aged 15 and older — have reported experiencing some form of psychological, physical or sexual abuse in a relationship at some point in their lives." "If IPV is not officially recognized as an epidemic in Ontario, it will be more difficult to break the barriers that prevent IPV from being effectively and comprehensively addressed [and] will permit the conditions that sustain IPV and femicide to persist — and likely worsen."

"In Australia, we have seen an almost 208% increase in the number of women in the criminal justice system for sexual offences from 2008 to 2023 ... While women make up a small minority of people who sexually offend, there are minimal offence-specific rehabilitative programs for these women in Australia. To prevent harm to children, this needs to change." "To assist prevention efforts, we need to continue to debunk misconceptions about female sexual offending. We also need to challenge those who minimise the abuse of female perpetrators. These misconceptions and the minimisation of abuse creates barriers to victims accessing help, but also to the women themselves." #sexualoffences #sexualviolence #childsexualabuse

Many factors contribute to #intimatepartnerviolence. "Persistent #genderinequality is a fundamental systemic cause, but researchers have identified additional risk factors. These include alcohol and drug use, past experience of #familyviolence, financial stress and sexist attitudes. One psychological factor that may be implicated in intimate partner violence is objectification." Research findings show "objectification plays a role in men’s intimate partner violence against women. Men who implicitly see their female partners as object-like are at greater risk of acting violently towards them."

"#Sexualviolence and abuse is often a major driver for women to leave their country of origin, as well as a common experience on their journey to the UK". However, Rape Crisis England & Wales and Imkaan have released a new report showing "women have been retraumatised by asylum interviews akin to interrogations; sharing mixed-sex accommodation, including bedrooms, with unrelated men; poor living conditions and lack of support. Some had faced further sexual violence and abuse while living in asylum accommodation". #genderedviolence
