Last week, WRI experts hosted an inspiring yet practical discussion on how to scale up #ClimateFinance to the levels that developing countries require. How will it be possible to scale up climate finance from billions to trillions? What needs to happen to ensure that more funding is offered to developing countries on the right terms, both to avoid adding to their debt crisis and make best use of scarce grant and concessional finance? These questions are answered, and more! Watch the webinar recording now 🔽

Limiting global warming to 1.5°C requires transformations across every sector 🌍 Most national climate commitments – or #NDCs – currently focus on reducing emissions economy-wide, but many lack the sector-specific goals needed to drive deep change and reach net zero. Sophie Boehm, Senior Research Associate at #SystemsChangeLab, explains how next-generation NDCs, due in 2025, provide an opportunity to set ambitious, timebound targets for sectors like power, transport, and food. These sector-level commitments can help shape domestic climate policies, guide investments, and provide clear direction for future action. 👉 Watch the video and explore how sectoral targets can enhance NDCs: https://bit.ly/4eVv7Xt

World Resources Institute and the National Climate Action team are proud to have hosted the National Dialogue for #JustTransitions in Peru on October 10. This event brought together various governmental stakeholders, including the Ministries of Environment, Foreign Affairs, and Agriculture, as well as non-governmental stakeholders, including Indigenous communities, women, youth organizations, trade unions, multilateral banks, private sector representatives, and grass-root and international organizations like the German Development Cooperation(giz), National Resources Governance Institute Latin America, and Oxfam en Perú. The goal of the dialogue was to foster inclusive conversations among multiple stakeholders in Peru to gather insights on perspectives, opportunities, challenges, and approaches for a just transition in the country, as well as to gather input for Peru’s #NDC update and the national position on just transition in international negotiations. Thanks as well to the team members that helped make this event happen: Héctor Miguel Donado Bula, Iryna Payosova, PhD, Carolina Useche, and many others!

While climate change significantly affects agricultural production, climate impacts are also felt beyond the farm gate, disrupting crucial value chain nodes such as processing and distributing, and putting a wide range of workers’ livelihoods and food security at risk. 🌽 For this reason, we need to think more comprehensively about building resilience all along agricultural value chains. Read World Resources Institute’s new Insights article to learn more about the importance of building the resilience of this “missing middle” in agricultural value chains, and how tools like #AgriAdapt can help: https://bit.ly/48dIPmp

📣STATEMENT: Countries will soon gather at the 16th UN Biodiversity Conference (COP16) in Cali, #Colombia, which kicks off on October 21. This will be the first #biodiversity summit since countries adopted a landmark plan to halt and reverse #biodiversityloss by 2030 at COP15 in Montreal in 2022 — the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Crystal Davis, WRI’s Global Director of Food, Land and Water stated: “The central measure of success will be whether countries are turning their commitments to conserve and restore at least 30% of the world’s land and water into national targets, backed by actionable national plans. Their actions must focus not just on numbers, but on protecting the places with the highest risk of extinction for species." 📄Read the full statement here▶️ https://bit.ly/3UikwxN
