Ottawa Ukrainian Mental Health is a collective of mental health professionals and partner of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Ottawa Branch. We work to provide and meet the current need for psychosocial supports of Ukrainians in Ottawa. We have been doing this by holding free weekly spiritual counselling and psychological support groups, fundraising, and recently partnering with Maidan Market to provide free individual life coaching sessions to refugees. All these resources are provided by our team of therapists, social workers, life coaches and psychiatrists in Ukrainian, Russian and English. My philosophy is that the past builds our being through the experiences we had and the lessons we learned. These experiences help to shape our sense of meaning and personal fulfilment through our journey. Therefore, I believe that it is important to explore the past and see how it shapes our experience in relation to ourselves and others. I incorporate this perspective in my work with clients and help to emphasize the power of choice, explore unmet needs and help to explore important areas for boundary setting.

Looking for the right therapist can be challenging and stressful. When I sit across from a client, I value and respect that I am being invited into important, personal situations, thoughts, and vulnerabilities. My philosophy to clinical work comes from my belief that you are trying to do the best you can and want support to do better. I will both accept you for where you are at, while helping you pushing toward the change you are looking for. I collaborate with my clients to then tailor the therapy I provide to the individual-pulling on my experience, trainings, and the understanding that we all are human.

A special parenting program for mothers who have been abused. They can have special challenges, from keeping their children safe to dealing with the legal system. Mothers have an opportunity to experience mutual support, while their children learn that they are not alone and that support is nearby. The group lasts for 10 weeks. Families enjoy both food and fun together. The group provides time for families to learn about the impact of abuse together, and also provides smaller groups for mothers, youth and younger children, so that they can learn more about surviving abuse at an age-appropriate level.

We enter psychotherapy for a wide variety of reasons: The death or loss of a loved one, illness, job loss, divorce, addiction, etc., but all of us seek help because we are trying to find a better way to deal with the reality we are facing. My job as a psychotherapist is to help you talk about your emotions and reactions in a safe environment, figure out where these emotions and reactions are coming from, observe whether your reactions produce the desired outcomes and, discover new ways to react, if that would produce more desirable outcomes

A general pattern I find with most people who choose to work with me is feeling stuck. Whether that's in career or life choices, a habit they you are trying to kick, or a feeling that you have more potential you want to actualize. Areas I am particularly drawn to working with include religious trauma, sexual trauma, addiction, and career and entrepreneurship. I find that people gravitate to my hypnosis modality (Hypnosis Assisted Healing) when they feel like they want something more than talk therapy, or that their situation requires a different approach. Trust your intuition!

Whether you’re seeking to address persistent, lifelong concerns or the effects of new and unsettling events, psychotherapy can be a helpful tool. It offers the opportunity of establishing a deeper and more meaningful understanding of ourselves and of our personal history, and work toward more fulfilling lives and relationships. For many of us psychotherapy can mean a way out of dark places. Pursuing therapy does not mean we will never be faced with challenging moments, it means that we will show up better equipped to handle adversities and will be able to bring our best selves to the forefront.
