At Buena Vida Integrative Health our focus is to treat the person as a whole. We focus on integrative psychiatry, which aims to rebalance the mental, emotional, spiritual, social, and community in the individual. In integrative psychiatry, we focus on combining medication, lifestyle interventions, and therapy modalities, such as brief supportive psychotherapy and solution focused therapy. Our goal is to empower each person to maximize their well-being to reach their ultimate good life or “buena vida” in Spanish.

I graduated with my Masters in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) specialty and Doctorate in Nursing (DNP) degrees from Duke University, ranked the best graduate nursing program in the country for the last 4 years. I am an APNA board member in the Kansas state chapter, have published research in the Journal of Emergency Nurses, and am adjunct faculty in Duke's graduate nursing program. I provide evidence-based psychiatric care to help people achieve their goals. This includes creating an empathetic, safe environment. Many patients value a treatment approach that is holistic and considers their unique needs.

My ideal client will have issues with mood disorders, anxiety, and/or trauma. They will need help in managing their disorder. Their goal will be to incorporate therapeutic, lifestyle modifications, supplements, and/or medicinal modalities to improve their sense of life. The client wants to improve their overall value of life. They want to feel as if they have a purpose and feel joy in obtaining that purpose.

Elizabeth grew up in Leavenworth, Kansas and lived there for most of her childhood. She completed her BS in nursing at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, and then her graduate studies to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner at Wilkes University. Fortunately for Elizabeth, she knew at a young age that she wanted to work in behavioral health. This awareness led her to pursue her experience and education in an early and deliberate manner.

Psychiatric nursing has always been my passion and I am ready to put my experience and skills to provide care to all patients requiring mental health services in the underserved healthcare sector. As a Mental Health Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, I will be willing to offer people of all ages with mental conditions the care they may require living a sustainable life. I work with clients to increase their understanding of the thoughts and behavior patterns they have today. I use a multifaceted approach to walk clients through their life experiences lived so far in hopes to bring honor and restoration to those experiences, which is often referred to as their “story”. Laura Tieszen is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in Missouri who has been practicing since 2023. She has a BS in Biology from Northwestern University, a BSN from Bellarmine University, and an MSN from Walden University - APRN, PMHNP track.
