Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is now available on Game Pass for Console and PC. Microsoft announced the surprise release yesterday, and this is the first Call of Duty game to come to Game Pass ahead of the day-one launch of the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on the service on October 24.
This Game Pass release coincides with the launch of the season 5 for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III today. This update adds new maps and multiplayer modes, new weapons to unlock via the Battle Pass, and there will also be limited-time events starting on July 31.

On PC, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is available to purchase and download from the Microsoft Store or the Xbox app, which is interesting. The PC Game Pass version of Diablo IV isn’t, and it needs to be obtained via Blizzard’s Battle.net launcher. So Activision apparently repackaged Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III for the Microsoft Store, and you can get it here. Like on Xbox, the game is split into multiple parts, including the “Call of Duty HQ” hub which acts as a launcher for recent Call of Duty games.
The release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III on Game Pass marks the first time a Call of Duty game is made available via a subscription service. However, Modern Warfare III isn’t available on Xbox Cloud Gaming as Microsoft gave the cloud streaming rights for Activision Blizzard games to Ubisoft.
It will also be interesting to see if Microsoft will make Modern Warfare III and other Call of Duty games on its upcoming $14.99/month Xbox Game Pass Standard tier. On a support page, Microsoft explained that Xbox Game Pass for Console, which is no longer available for new subscribers, “may have select titles that are not included with Xbox Game Pass Standard.”
