Making economic sense of common problems
About us
In an increasingly complex commercial and policy environment, economic thinking and advice can provide a clear, logical framework for decision-making. DNA Economics is a specialist economic and development consulting firm, which provides clients with the in-depth expertise and analysis necessary to make the right choices. Founded in 2004, DNA Economics combines a deep understanding of the Southern African business and policy context with specialist skills in international trade, public policy and regulation, competition economics and climate change. Where DNA Economics does not have specialist skills in-house, we are able to draw on a network of local experts and academics as well as our strategic business partners in Australia and Europe. Our services are based on our extensive international experience and network; sound economic analysis and quantitative techniques; and unique insights into the business and policy environment in Southern Africa.

Well done to Itumeleng Mokoena for being selected to attend the International Development Economics Associates's workshop and conference in Rio de Janeiro earlier this month. It is immensely encouraging to witness DNAers be recognised for their academic and professional achievements and get exposure to exciting opportunities!
I had the privilege of attending a student workshop and a global conference on Reforming International Financial Architecture from August 5-9, organized by International Development Economics Associates (IDEAs) and the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. These discussions were timely, given Brazil's current G20 chairmanship and South Africa's upcoming role as chair. Moreover, they coincided with ongoing efforts to increase the flow of finance into development and climate change projects in the Global South. The sessions were recorded and can be accessed at this link: https://lnkd.in/dbvwfsCA.

This week, Vuyisiwe K Mahafu, from our Public Economics and Modelling Practice, travelled to Zambia to present findings from a cost-benefit analysis study. The study, funded by the Roger Federer Foundation for the Zambian Ministry of Education, aims to assess the costs and benefits associated with the implementation of universal Early Childhood Education (ECE) services for children aged 3 to 6 in Zambia. The report launch was attended by the government officials, including the Minister of Education, NGOs and business representatives. The event offered an opportunity for all stakeholders to reflect on the gains made in expanding ECE access in the last two decades, whilst recognising that further investment in ECE services is crucial. Our report puts forward a compelling quantitative, not just moral, case for investing in ECE services in Zambia. We look forward to seeing how the report’s findings will inform budgeting and coordination efforts to improve ECE access for children in Zambia.
