We're passionate about the art of storytelling and are always looking for ways to improve our craft. While science generates data, hypotheses, and empirical evidence, when it comes to understanding, storytelling has a unique power to captivate and persuade people. In this thought-provoking article, Michael Stein and Sandro Galea explore the challenge of blending scientific exposition with compelling narratives to drive action and understanding. https://lnkd.in/daYHE9_B

Infertility is often a deeply painful experience– one, that too often is made more painful by the way that other humans react to it. A heartfelt thank you to all of the brave women who shared their insights and experiences of infertility-related violence in Cameroon and Kenya. Your voice matters. This work matters*. We’re grateful to the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) conference for providing the opportunity to spotlight the stark need for change. Everyone deserves to live a life free of violence. *These findings were part of a qualitative study conducted in Cameroon and Kenya under the Agency for All Project, with support from the Bureau for Africa. #SVRIForum24 #SVRI

"It’s so important when we convene that we PAUSE. We’re always running from one thing to the next - it’s really important we pause and hang out with ourselves, cultivate curiosity and learn something new. It helps us dislodge competition amongst us - that scarcity mindset - this idea that we need to fight to be visible, to be supported. Be a little open, I think it can take us one step further”- jac sm kee (Feminist Activist working at the intersection of Internet Technologies, Social Justice and Collective Power). This was a comment from the plenary opening of the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) Conference. Curiosity, Community, and Compassion - the anchors of the human experience - and the glue that holds us all together. This week is off to an incredibly powerful start. #SVRI #SVRIForum24 #EndViolence #ResearchforImpact #EndGBV

I met with an amazing man a while ago, Paris Pitsillides and his partner in crime Thulani Grenville - Grey of Matchboxology. These two super humans spoke me through their process in developing the Coach Impilo programme- their passion for humancentric design, our collective understanding of the need for a greater focus on men and the means to empower them, we Compared battle scars in the fight for HIV prevention, treatment and care. I have remained impressed by their work! And to see it having been adopted at this level and being rolled out. Wow ma gents, Respect!!
Research shows that men have many reasons for not wanting to get tested or treated for #HIV. But you don’t have to shy away from life, Muzi Mathebula tells other men with #HIV. He’s a “coach” at the Chiawelo Clinic in Johannesburg, where he helps his “team” stay on their meds. Find out how it works — and how it can help SA get to 95-95-95. https://lnkd.in/dctQVACu

"I’m looking forward to presenting evidence and am grateful to be part of conversations that will catalyze change on violence against women, against children, and other forms of violence driven by gender inequality in low and middle-income countries. I will be presenting on Women’s experience of infertility-related violence in Cameroon and Kenya at the SVRI Forum 2024." - Caroline Deignan #SVRIForum24

"While in Harare I came across this beautiful little statue of a gorilla. It was a great reminder that beauty is wherever you look for it. At Matchboxology we believe that people are experts in their own lives. Every day I learn that actively listening to people and intentionally unpacking the insights that I hear from them is part of capturing the beauty of people’s experiences. Human Centered Design is the beauty of experts and experts are everywhere you look." - Shannon Pincus #ActivelyListening #Storytelling #HCD #HumanCenteredDesign
