We inspire wide-scale global action on industrial decarbonization as an essential part of tackling climate change.
Info
We are a UNIDO-led network of international initiatives working to accelerate the shift of industrial organizations – both large and small – away from fossil fuels. Working with governments, the private sector and finance institutions in emerging economies, we help industry to rethink how they use energy. This involves designing solutions tailored to specific country needs and taking what we learn to inspire global action on industrial decarbonization. Our work is centered on three key areas of opportunity: Energy efficiency: Increasing the uptake of measures and technology to boost efficient energy use. Renewables and alternative fuels: Helping industries from all sectors to generate heat from a variety of emerging renewable sources. Heavy industry decarbonization: Creating a thriving market for near zero carbon industrial products, starting with steel, cement and concrete.

🏭 Industry makes a significant contribution to 🇲🇦#Morocco's economy, but the sector is almost entirely dependent on #fossilfuel imports. For the country to meet its 2030 commitments, around 50% of reductions in #GHGemissions need to come from industry. This makes #training in industrial #energyefficiency critical. 🎥 WATCH 'Building the capacity of Morocco’s energy management leaders' to see how the country is decarbonizing its industries one energy saving measure at a time 👉 https://lnkd.in/eip7EJ_W #climateaction #climatechange #decarbonization #renewableenergy UNIDO

🆕 NEW REPORT: Preliminary Roadmap for Industrial #Decarbonization – 🇰🇪#Kenya 🏭 Kenya’s industrial sector plays a pivotal role in the country’s socio-economic development. It accounts for 17% of the country’s GDP and employs a significant fraction of Kenya’s labour force. The objective of this report is to analyse Kenya’s industrial sector and develop a preliminary decarbonization roadmap by: - Understanding the industrial landscape and identifying key industrial sub-sectors - Identifying emissions pathways and decarbonization potential of key industrial sub-sectors - Proposing a set of actions, specific activities to enable low-carbon industrial growth - Defining the time horizon for implementation of proposed actions and activities in the short, medium, and long term ⬇️ Download it here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eS95x4kC #climateaction #climatechange #energyefficiency #renewableenergy UNIDO, UNIDO Kenya, Econoler, puREsource partners

🆕 NEW REPORT: Preliminary Roadmap for Industrial #Decarbonisation in 🇻🇳#Vietnam 📈 Vietnam’s #GHGemissions are high, with an increase of 878% between 1990 and 2014. The transition to a #lowcarbon economy is essential for tackling #climatechange and promoting a sustainable future. 🌱 This report is a preliminary roadmap for the decarbonization of Vietnam, looking at goals, technological pathways, low-carbon fuels, feedstocks and energy sources, and more. UNIDO is coordinating the Clean Energy Ministerial Industrial Deep Decarbonisation Initiative (#IDDI). Against this backdrop, the “Industrial Decarbonisation Baseline Assessments” project is supporting the development of an industry decarbonization roadmap in consultation with key stakeholders. 🏭 In the fight against #climatechange, heavy industries are the next frontier. Greener construction materials are critical 🌱 #Steel and #cement production account for just over 50% of all industrial emissions. The need for continuous high-temperature heat to produce these vital materials requires huge amounts of energy, much of which is still dependent on #fossilfuels. In 2021, UNIDO and the Clean Energy Ministerial launched the Industrial Deep #Decarbonisation Initiative (#IDDI), the largest and most diverse coalition of governments, companies and organizations working to create an enabling environment for the deep decarbonization of industry, starting with steel, cement and #concrete. IDDI aims to spur early demand for low and near-zero emission for these materials through green #publicprocurement. UNIDO's Industrial Decarbonization Accelerator hat dies direkt geteilt
We are pleased to announce we have signed a ground-breaking agreement with the UN’s Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to work together on #decarbonising the cement and #concrete industry, with a strong focus on the Global South. Speaking at the signing ceremony in Austria, Gerd Müller, Director General of UNIDO, said: “Cement and concrete are a vital part of resilient #infrastructure development. Decarbonizing the cement and concrete sectors worldwide is essential to reducing CO2 emissions and tackling climate change. The GCCA and its members are leading the way on doing so for this important global industry. Our UNIDO Member States face a number of technical, market-related and policy hurdles that make decarbonization commitments even more challenging. That is why I am very glad to sign this Memorandum of Understanding with the GCCA and start a new phase of closer cooperation that will help our Member States overcome those challenges.” Thomas Guillot, our CEO, said: “Through our #NetZero Roadmap and the accelerator programme we have put in place, we are already working with policymakers, governments and industry to overcome procurement and resourcing challenges across the global south. Having this ground-breaking agreement with UNIDO is a natural progression which we hope will fast-track progress in a meaningful way.” Find out more: https://lnkd.in/ex_fUFYF Rana Ghoneim
