School may not have gone back yet, but the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) capitalised on the extra free time bringing together 70 enthusiastic Year 12 students for an immersive introduction to the STEM industry. Through an engaging “speed-meet” format, students had the unique opportunity to connect directly with STEM professionals and researchers, gaining valuable insights into potential career pathways. Queensland Branch Manager Holly Bretherton provided students with an overview of in-demand jobs in the IT industry. While Jonathan Nalder ‘the Edunaut’, Project Manager for the Gateway to Industry Schools Program (ICT GISP)—funded by the Queensland Department of Trade, Employment and Training—guided students through the ‘My Digital Career Survey’ and the ACS’s STEM Career Wheel’. These interactive tools are designed to generate personalised career insights and help students visualise where they fit in the vast landscape of STEM careers. “It was incredibly rewarding to see the students’ enthusiasm as they explored the many exciting opportunities available in STEM,” said Dularika Wickramasinghe, business analyst and member of the ACS QLD Emerging Professionals Committee. "Resources like these not only inspire the next generation but also provide a clear pathway to help them achieve their ambitions." As we look ahead to 2025, ACS remains committed to supporting emerging tech talent and can’t wait to see what these bright students go on to accomplish. #ICTGISP #STEM #TechTalent #TechEducation
