  • How do you *really* know if your architecture business is doing well? Of course, there are obvious ways to tell. For example: are you making money? Do you have regular client inquiries coming in? Is your team happy? But, there are also some not-so-secret ways to gauge whether your firm is successful. After working with architects for 6+ years, we've discovered 25 success benchmarks for architects. We've put it all together in one handy online tool, and for the first time, we're making it accessible to our community. This is a simple diagnostic exercise that you can use to gauge whether your business is on the right track or not. It should only take about 5-10 minutes to complete, but will offer you PLENTY of insights! 🧠 👉 Click here to access: https://lnkd.in/eUeP5ZSE

  • Wise words from our Chief Mentor, Ray Brown!

I create business success for architects.

For some time now, there’s been a lot of discussion about how architects don’t receive adequate business training—whether in universities or while working under someone else. I hear you, and I understand the frustration. But I’m also growing increasingly concerned by the rhetoric I see online. At ArchiBiz, we’ve been part of this conversation, positioning ourselves as the ones who "fill the gap in your business education" and teach the skills necessary to lead an architecture firm that does great work and gets properly paid for it. I stand by that, but something has shifted recently. Today, there’s more consultants, programs, coaches and resources than ever before. Yet many architects are hesitant to explore these options. Why? More importantly, what has to happen for that to change? 👉 I’ve written up some of my thoughts in this article. I realize I am one of many in this industry – with my own singular experiences – so I encourage you to openly share your thoughts, opinions and feelings with me in the comments. • Are you the one person in your practice who does it all? For solo architects or those with a small team, wearing all the hats – designing, invoicing, social media – is all too common. It’s part of being small and resourceful! But what happens when your team grows and you’re still the one doing it all? That’s a one-way ticket to burnout. As a leader, it’s crucial to delegate efficiently. You need to trust your team and empower them with the tools they need to excel. Clearly define their responsibilities and give them ownership of their work. This is how you can work smarter, not harder. Remember, you hired your team for a reason!

  • If you're like most architects we meet, you've likely never been taught how to run a successful business. Sure, you learned how to design at university. You might have learned a thing or two working for someone else. But going off on your own? That's a whole different ballgame ⚾ Leading an architecture firm that leaves you emotionally and financially fulfilled isn't out of reach. However, it does require you to take the time to learn about business. Our Business Foundations Program™ has been designed to provide you with the foundational knowledge, tools and resources you need to run your architecture firm. It's an all-in-one program that will radically transform your business and how you approach it. 👉 Learn more at archibiz(dot)global/bfp

  • Do you think of vulnerability in business as a positive or a negative? Being vulnerable in business should not be considered a “negative” or something one shies away from. There are times when vulnerability is necessary. So what is it that makes vulnerability “okay” in business? Ironically, you need to have a degree of confidence before you’re comfortable to be vulnerable. As a leader, we're strong believers that you should be okay with expressing vulnerability with your team or trusted partners - as long as it's constructive and doesn't hurt morale. A second constructive way to demonstrate vulnerability in business arises as you build your relationship with a new client. It would be sensible – as well as a good relationship building technique – for architects to acknowledge a client’s vulnerability when they are hiring a new architect. It's a huge endeavor to put your trust in an architect, so any opportunity to acknowledge that could pay off in spades! What do you think? Are you comfortable being vulnerable in your business? 🤔

  • How well are you educating your clients? 🤓 When it comes to client communication, we sometimes forget that we also need to educate clients. It's not just about maintaining clients in the loop and seeking feedback when needed. It's about educating our clients so they can get the best possible outcome for you and them. At any time that you are communicating with clients, you should be thinking to yourself: You're educating them on... - What working with you is like - What they might expect at every stage - Any opportunities where things could go wrong - How to work with an architect - Your past work and what's possible When you start approaching client communication with this perspective, you'll notice that your relationship improves, the work flows more smoothly, and the likelihood of a referral grows. 👉 We want to hear from you. Do you consider education when you speak to prospective or actual clients? What's your process for educating clients? Let us know in the comments below!
