💫 And so it begins! 🎍On my last big adventure I embraced the ancient craft of Japanese bamboo weaving—a practice and culture that forever changed my life. The vital interplay between the past and the present is not lost on me. Especially, because this time, I’m stepping into the future… a place where I feel equally at home. 📝 So, here’s the wrap on the first day of the DUBAI FUTURE FOUNDATION, FEEL | A Disruptive Futures Program. What an incredible start! We were warmly welcomed by His Excellency Omar Sultan AlOlama, Minister of State for AI, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications and Dr Mohamed Qasem, Dean of the Dubai Future Academy. 📦 Led by Yvonne Gregori and her team, our first task was to crack a Break the Box game, reminding us all that “we’re better together” #thefutureiscollaborative 🤓 The afternoon session was tactile and material (totally my thing), as Dr Antony Rowstron Distinguished Engineer at Microsoft Research, Cambridge, presented the power and purpose behind Silica glass data storage. The takeaway? Heat, humidity, and capacity are no longer an issue—plus spider bot archivists are totally lovable! 💛 This comprehensive program wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and dedication of Dr Mohamed Qasem, Tala Anshasi, Farah AlHattab, and Shamma AlMurid. The bar is high for the days to come, and I’m eager to see what’s next! 💡As Christina Figueres and Tom Robert-Carnac suggest “we are the future we choose”. Landfills present unique opportunities for ecological rehabilitation, serving as high-value after use options that promote habitat creation and enhance ecological connectivity. Additionally, these sites can be transformed into passive recreational spaces for communities. This Friday Richard Campbell will join Ruby Michael, Senior Lecturer at Griffith University and Founder of Green Infrastructure Research Labs (GIRLS) and Vishal Rajendraprasad Chulliparambil, PhD candidate in Ecological Rehabilitation of Landfill using Phytocapping at Green Infrastructure Research Labs (GIRLS).
