Yesterday, the City officially welcomed 51 new residents from more than 20 countries at its special Harmony Week Citizenship Ceremony. Taking place from 17 to 23 March, Harmony Week presents an opportunity for us to celebrate our vibrant multicultural community. The City is proud to be one of the State's most culturally and linguistically diverse metropolitan local governments, with almost 40% of our residents born overseas. About us
In the bustling heart of the inner east, the City of Bayswater is home to a culturally diverse and vibrant community of more than 65,000 residents set against the backdrop of four burgeoning town centres, over 380 hectares of green open space and a 10km stretch of the Swan River. The City operates three libraries, three recreation centres and supports over 120 local sporting clubs through the provision of club rooms and facilities. We maintain 188 parks, ovals and open spaces, and manage a local road network that spans 360km. We are particularly passionate about the environment, dedicating valuable time and resources to addressing water quality, protecting our wetlands and planting over 1,500 trees to address our declining tree canopy. An early adopter of the three-bin system we are serious about reducing waste and educating our residents about how they can contribute. The City manages parking, promotes responsible pet ownership and ensures we are bushfire ready. We operate two senior citizen centres, oversee three residential care facilities and four retirement villages. We operate five child health centres, immunisation clinics and conduct health inspections at local eateries. For further information visit the City's website bayswater.wa.gov.au

On Friday, the City celebrated International Women's Day with a free event uplifting women and girls in our community. Women's Impact attendees watched a moving short film presented by crisis accommodation provider Orana House, then prepared heartfelt messages and more than 90 care packs to support women facing family and domestic violence. Attendees also generously donated $500 worth of Eftpos gift cards to be included in the care packs. Other celebrations during the week included an evening yoga class, a menopause workshop, a string quartet performance and morning tea for seniors, and a business workshop for women entrepreneurs. Thank you to everyone who joined us for these inspiring free events. The City's International Women's Day celebrations were supported by Morley Galleria.

The City is proud to have achieved its 2025 target of 100% renewable electricity for City operations, excluding streetlighting, as part of its Emission Reduction and Renewable Energy (ERRE) Plan ⚡🔌 Endorsed by Council in 2021, the ERRE Plan sets out a roadmap for actions the City will take to achieve its emissions reduction and renewable energy use targets, including net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. By securing power purchasing agreements with Synergy (Electricity Generation and Retail Corporation) and WA Local Government Association (WALGA) and installing solar panels at 25 of our sites, we've cut greenhouse gas emissions by around 7,000 tonnes – that's the equivalent to 812 return flights from Perth to London!
