Proudly Australian. Globally connected.
About us
We are one of Australia's oldest and largest law firms, with offices in six cities, nearly 200 partners, and a full range of legal services for large private sector and government clients. But we're more interested in talking about you, and with you. It's why, wherever you are, we give you advice that connects with you. Advice that isn't just a one-size-fits-all solution taken off a shelf, but that reflects who you are, and what you need. Advice created by lawyers with different experiences and different views, but united by an entrepreneurial spirit, a can-do attitude, confidence in each other, and pride in helping you achieve. As you might have noticed, we like speaking plainly. While we like thinking creatively to help you, we won't give you an answer hidden by legal jargon, or that doesn't reflect our honest opinion. Our clients value that, and trust us with their most important work. And we work hard to deserve that trust.

Another great session in the Centre for Legal Innovation’s Legal GenAI Conversations Series! Our partner, Simon Newcomb, joined Daniel Proietto, Chief Executive Partner, Lander & Rogers, and Prue Tyler, Founder and Director, SHIFT Advisory Limited, to discuss how AI is reshaping legal practice, from leadership and firm structures to talent, governance, and value creation. Watch the video here: https://lnkd.in/ggM-RX4y or listen to the podcast here: https://lnkd.in/g3gTaQ-S.
Another fab session this week in the Centre for Legal Innovation’s Legal GenAI Conversations Series with three law firm leaders from Australia and New Zealand. Our topic was Legal leaders in the AI era – Are we there yet? *Simon Newcomb, Partner, Clayton Utz *Dan Proietto, Chief Executive Partner, Lander & Rogers *Prue Tyler, Founder and Director, SHIFT Advisory Limited You'll find the video here: https://lnkd.in/ggM-RX4y And the podcast here (and everywhere): https://lnkd.in/g3gTaQ-S We chatted about how every aspect of legal practice is transforming before our eyes with AI as the catalyst and the enabler. And my additional comment….it’s a challenging time for law firm leaders - it’s definitely not a role for the faint hearted. Here’s a little more detail about what we got into: *Whether law firm leaders need to think differently and lead differently in the AI era *Whether AI demanded a fundamental rethink of law firm structures, billing models, and governance and if so, how? *How you reskill lawyers, attract new talent, create multidisciplinary teams, and redefine roles to thrive alongside AI *How you introduce and embed AI without overwhelming everyone in the process *With AI democratising legal knowledge and making legal services/products/solutions more accessible, how law firms can stand out, create, and sustain unique value *Where law firms need to be on the AI Maturity Scale in the next 12 months, why, and how they will know if they have hit the mark Do take an hour to watch or listen to this one…you’ll be glad you did! #CLI2025 #legalai #law #lawfirms #legal #legalgenai #legalleaders

It was a privilege to host Sarah Court, Deputy Chair of ASIC, in conversation with Kirsten Webb for our latest #DigitalEconomyLive session, where we explored how ASIC is engaging with digital risks. In case you missed it, here are the key insights from our discussion: • Cyber resilience is a governance priority – ASIC expects directors and senior management to actively oversee cyber risks. • The Scam Prevention Framework is now law – banks, telcos, and digital platforms have mandatory compliance obligations to strengthen scam detection and prevention. • Digital assets remain an enforcement focus – existing financial services laws may already apply to many crypto-related products and services. • AI-driven financial decision-making is under scrutiny – companies should ensure governance frameworks mitigate risks of bias, consumer harm, and misleading conduct. • Regulatory collaboration is ongoing – ASIC is working closely with the ACCC, APRA, OAIC, ACMA, and international regulators to coordinate enforcement efforts on digital financial risks. • ASIC is scaling AI-driven supervision – Enforcement activity may become more data-driven and proactive.
