Every day, our teams work on roads across Sydney to maintain and improve the network. Their safety relies not only on robust traffic management and protective measures but also on the awareness and actions of road users. We are committed to continuous innovation that enhances protection for our road workers and road users alike. Whether it’s improving traffic management strategies, adopting the latest safety technology, or supporting industry-wide initiatives, we stand for solutions that make a real difference. A current industry push highlights the importance of clearer work zone safety alerts in navigation apps. A simple change—replacing generic audio warnings with direct, action-based messages like “Slow down for road workers”—could significantly improve driver response times and reduce risks in work zones. We encourage everyone to stay alert, respect roadwork zones, and always prioritise safety. Small changes in driver awareness can have a huge impact on protecting lives. #RoadWorkerSafety #TrafficManagement #InnovationForSafety #SlowDownForRoadWorkers #ConnectingPeopleAndPlaces

🚨 𝗧𝗠𝗔𝗔 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀 – 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆! 🚨 Every day, traffic controllers and road workers put their lives on the line to keep Australia moving. But too often, distracted and speeding drivers put them in danger. That’s why the Traffic Management Association of Australia (TMAA) is calling on Google Maps Platform, Apple Maps, and Waze to step up for safety by improving their work zone audio warnings. 🔊 A simple tweak—replacing generic alerts with “𝗦𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀”—could save lives. Research shows that clear, action-based audio messages make drivers react faster and reduce dangerous driving in work zones. 🛑 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 Let’s make our voices heard. Preserving history: Restoring Galston Timber Bridge Bridges connect more than just roads—they link communities, histories, and landscapes. Nestled in the bushland of Berowra Valley National Park, Galston Timber Bridge is one of Sydney’s rare heritage-listed structures, a living connection to the engineering of the past. Built in 1893, it remains one of the last McDonald timber truss bridges in New South Wales and the shortest timber bridge ever constructed in the state. While it continues to serve the Hornsby community, time and the elements have taken their toll. We are leading a multi-stage restoration project to ensure this bridge stands strong for future generations. Scheduled to continue until 2029, the works focus on strengthening the structure while protecting its historical significance and surrounding environment. Recent assessments identified structural deterioration, making refurbishment essential for safety and longevity. The restoration includes: - Scaffolding design and installation to safely access key areas while minimising impact. - Repainting and sealing timber elements to guard against water damage. - Replacing deteriorated timber components to improve strength and durability. - Environmental safeguards, such as geofabric barriers, to prevent debris from entering Tunks Creek. With the bridge located in a heritage and environmentally sensitive area, careful planning ensures the work respects both history and nature. Containment measures protect Berowra Valley National Park, while heritage approvals guide materials and techniques to preserve the original structure. This project highlights the balance between conservation and modern engineering, ensuring this historic bridge remains part of the community for years to come. We are proud to play a role in preserving infrastructure that carries both history and purpose. #infrastructure #HeritageConservation #RoadMaintenance #BridgeRestoration #sustainability #ConnectSydney #ConnectingPeopleAndPlaces

A strong workplace culture isn’t just about what we do. It’s also about how we support one another while doing it. That’s why we introduced our themed Breakfast & Learn sessions, creating a space for open conversations about stress management, workplace challenges, and building resilience. Through our unique partnership with Axis, we’re leading the way in integrating onsite psychological support into daily work life. The first sessions, facilitated by Eliana Córdoba, had strong engagement from across the business, including engineers, supervisors, project managers, advisors, and senior leadership. These small-group discussions provided a valuable opportunity to share experiences, explore real workplace pressures, and develop practical strategies for managing well-being. These sessions are about shaping how we lead, collaborate, and create a workplace where people feel supported. Attendees walked away with practical techniques to apply in their daily work, strengthening both personal resilience and team culture. The overwhelmingly positive feedback reinforces how we’re leading the way in shaping a safe, supportive, and high-performing culture. When leaders prioritise well-being and psychological safety, it creates a ripple effect, encouraging open conversations, improving team resilience, and driving real behavioural change. With engagement across all levels, we’re continuing making workplace well-being a priority. #PsychologicalSafety #WellbeingAtWork #LeadershipInAction #ConnectSydney #WorkplaceWellbeing #ConnectingPeopleAndPlaces

Innovative Traffic Management Solutions, Proactive Community Engagement, and Pioneering Sustainability in Roadworks: Bunnerong Road The Bunnerong Road project is a testament to how teamwork, innovation, and sustainable practices drive exceptional results. Faced with complex challenges, our teams delivered practical solutions that benefited the community, safeguarded workers, and protected the environment. ·  The Network Operations Team’s Kylene Prescott, introduced a dynamic clearway system tailored to project needs. They ensured smooth site access and supported contraflow systems, all while minimising disruptions. Kylene’s hands-on leadership and seamless site logistics were instrumental to the project’s success. ·  The Events team, Peter Dean and Nick Popovski, also played a critical role. With minimal notice, they designed and delivered the clearway signage for a trial implementation. Their dedication under tight deadlines set a high standard for safety and efficiency. Their exceptional efforts were recognised with our Collaborators Award, a testament to their outstanding collaboration and commitment. ·  The Customer and Stakeholder team’s Cindy Urquhart maintained open communication with the local community, addressing concerns and ensuring a collaborative approach. Their professionalism earned praise, with a resident sharing: "We’d like to commend the crew... their expertise, ability to organise, and making certain it is a safe workplace for traffic to pass through. It has been mind-blowing to watch from our balcony. A big thank you!" ·  The Environmental team, led by Larry Melnick, and supported by Katherine Townsley, worked alongside Boral to address the significant challenge of managing coal tar—a hazardous material historically used in asphalt. Coal tar remains present in older road materials and must be carefully identified and removed to ensure worker safety and environmental compliance. By using real-time testing technology, the team safely isolated contaminated materials, maximised recycling, and reduced waste sent to landfill. These innovations helped protect workers, minimise environmental impacts, and establish a new benchmark for sustainable roadworks. Special thanks to Vincent Pesquet and the team at Bright Environmental for providing cutting-edge testing and engaging the team on-site with their expertise, ensuring everyone understood the process and its environmental impacts. This project truly demonstrates what’s possible when we align expertise, sustainable practices, and proactive planning. The positive feedback we’ve received from the community and stakeholders is a testament to the incredible efforts of everyone involved. Thank you to everyone involved for your contributions. Your efforts are setting new benchmarks for innovation and sustainability in roadworks. #Innovation #Sustainability #Collaboration #Safety
