Understanding how Australia is perceived by our Asian neighbours helps us engage more constructively in the region. Earlier last week, DFAT and Asia Society Australia launched a new lecture series celebrating the legacy of renowned Australian Diplomat Richard Woolcott AC who was instrumental in reframing Australia’s relationship with Asia. The inaugural lecture, delivered by Dr Kyung-wha Kang, President & CEO of Asia Society and former minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea offered an insightful perspective on ‘How Asia Sees Australia.’ Members of the Diplomatic Corps, special guests, and DFAT staff had the opportunity to hear Dr Kang’s insightful perspective on this topic.

Always an annual highlight to get on Country in Arnhem Land for the Garma Festival. When talking to community Elders and leaders, I am reminded of the resilience, wisdom and strength of culture our people possess. Fantastic also this year to host our Pacific brothers and sisters, with Ministers and leaders from across the region descending on Arnhem Land to learn and share in our long-standing cultural ties.

Australian and Indian negotiators are in Sydney this week to progress work towards a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA). India is Australia’s fifth largest trading partner, with growing links in education, agriculture, energy, resources, tourism, healthcare, financial services, infrastructure, science and innovation, and sport. An ambitious CECA offers great potential for both countries to build on already strong economic ties and our existing free trade agreement.

This week, a delegation of 18 Australian tech companies visited Thailand as part of the fourth Australia-Southeast Asia Business Exchange Mission, another step to implement Invested: Australia's Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040. Participating companies across AI, digital health, regulatory technology, agricultural technology and technologies for business innovation, met Thailand-based businesses and heard from in-market experts about trends, the technology ecosystem and Thailand’s digital economy.
