🎨 This stunning artwork by Timani Nairana is called Love Story. Love Story beautifully depicts desert peas in feather-flower form, a tradition passed down through generations in Timani's family. “The white flower symbolises a spiritual light known as a min min light”. 🌸✨ This stunning piece is available to purchase through DUMAWUL, a Dja Dja Wurrung enterprise providing opportunities for Djaara creatives through arts, tourism and education. For more information, please email dumawul@djadjawurrung.com.au.

Chewton CFA welcomed Dja Dja Wurrung Enterprise, DUMAWUL to its station to deliver cultural competency training to a group of nine firefighters last month. The firefighters spent the day with DUMAWUL facilitators Amos Atkinson and Paul Phillips. They heard stories about Djaara Culture and history, learning about the direct impacts of colonisation and gaining insights into how we can live and work on Djaara Country with empathy and understanding. “Everyone came to the training with a curious and respectful mindset,” Chewton Maintenance Officer Bec Howell said. “Amos and Paul were very open and approachable. It often felt more like a conversation than a presentation.” Read more about their experience in this article: https://lnkd.in/gxuYjJpZ Photography by Steve Womersley Mount Alexander Shire Council Dja Dja Wurrung Enterprises Pty Ltd

Aunty Marilyne Nicholls and Jason Kerr were there for the unveiling. The new facility is named Wanyanimbik Wayawan, meaning ‘finding myself’ in Dja Dja Wurrung language, based on the BCHS philosophy of discovery, not just recovery. Hey, mob, are you interested in working for the Dja Dja Wurrung Group? Mandy’s advice is: “Don’t be deterred about the job interview process – mine wasn’t too formal. There’s so much help. Don’t give up. Ask questions – they're only too happy to answer your questions.” Proud Dja Dja Wurrung and Yorta Yorta woman Mandy Saunders, 52, started a traineeship with DJANDAK in February 2023. In less than a year, she became a project officer working in Joint Management. She works three days a week. I just kept ringing every week if there were any jobs available and Renee would run me through them. It helps to have someone like that on the other end of the phone for a nervous person. “Within less than a year, I went from being a trainee to being a project officer. And now we have lots of projects that we’re trying to get off the ground,” Mandy said. “I'm in charge of signage. We’re in the process of getting signage fabricated and installed. I’ve never done this type of work before. We have to go out on Country to survey where the signs will be installed, and I help organise Wartakas when needed. I really love it when we go out on Country. Contact Renee or Ann for information or a yarn. Or check out our Gunga (Jobs) webpage for advertised roles www.djadjawurrung.com.au
