Congratulations to the City of Bayswater on getting the Riverside Gardens East project underway.   We’re pleased to support this with $600,000 from the Gnangara Waterwise Councils Grants Program; a joint initiative between Department of Water and Environmental Regulation and the Water Corporation.   Water Minister Simone McGurk said: "By converting an under-utilised grassed area into a waterwise urban forest here at Riverside Gardens, the City of Bayswater is reducing groundwater use in line with the 2022 Gnangara groundwater allocation plan, which requires local governments within the plan area to reduce their groundwater use by 10 per cent from 2028.”   Environment; Climate Action Minister Reece Whitby said: "Planting trees is one of the easiest ways for us to mitigate against climate change and keep our suburbs cooler, which is why the Cook Labor Government is committed to increasing Perth's canopy cover.”   More: https://ow.ly/gFnR50UQ0Yo

🌞 Hot and dry weather ahead for Great Southern and Esperance regions Once again, we're expecting dry seasonal conditions across the Great Southern and east to Esperance for the rest of the summer. Last summer's hot, dry weather impacted our communities, waterways, wetlands, farm dams, soils, and vegetation. In 2024, we also experienced record-low streamflows and below-average rainfall. The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts below-average rainfall and hotter, drier conditions through February and March. Now that construction is completed, it's estimated that METRONET's use of modular floating construction dam covers on the Morley-Ellenbrook Line saved over 11 million litres of water from evaporation.
