It was an honour to deliver guest lectures on circular economy and zero-waste practices to government officials from Bangladesh’s Ministry of Industry (Led by Prof Dora Marinova) and Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE- led by A/P Lien Duong) as part of the Australia Awards Fellowships program, funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade! This collaboration between the Global North and South is crucial for sharing knowledge, experiences, and insights into country-specific challenges and opportunities. While the Global South often lacks the basic infrastructure for effective waste management, making the leap to a circular economy seems daunting. However, achieving a circular economy remains a challenge in the Global North. Site visits, including the Richgro bio-energy facility and workshops, provided valuable perspectives on these challenges. One highlight was visiting the facility of Circular Seed Pty Ltd (special thanks to Narendran Subramaniam), which demonstrates impressive innovation in transforming unmanageable soft plastics and outdated electronics into new products like switch boxes and flower pots. This collaboration will undoubtedly unlock new possibilities for both the Global North and South. Embracing this journey of mutual learning and shared vision can make the 'impossible' a reality. As Nelson Mandela famously said, “It always seems impossible until it is done.” Let’s begin making it possible together. #research #development #tranformation #transition #circulareconomy

Delighted to wrap up the first week of our Australia Awards Fellowships program, funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade! This research program builds on partnerships we developed through previous Australia Awards Short Courses. Our delegates come from various Vietnamese ministries and organisations, here in Australia to learn from Australian and international emissions reduction efforts to support Vietnam’s development of domestic carbon market policies. Though greeted by an unusually cold weather in Perth, the delegation received a warm welcome from Danny Ford OAM and representatives of Curtin University, the DFAT Western Australia State Office and the Consulate General of Vietnam. They attended presentations by the @WA Department of Water and Environmental Regulation on state plans for a low-carbon future, MRV processes, and GHG emissions reporting in Australia and New Zealand. The delegates also explored research projects on climate reporting, energy transition, net-zero precincts, and waste reduction.
