Our clients had the chance to learn from other board members and executives at our immersive ‘Boardroom Hypothetical’ event designed for boards and senior leaders, held in our Sydney office. The compelling format invited clients to join a mock board and connect with industry peers to develop a strategy to respond to current issues in the boardroom. Each board was presented with a hypothetical scenario requiring participants to share their unique skills and experience to agree on the next steps in an allocated time frame. The scenarios were led by our experts – Fay Calderone (Psychosocial), John Gray (AI), Eden Winokur (Cyber) – and the session was hosted and facilitated by Suzie Leask GAICD, FGIA. Read some of the client feedback below. We will host more of these events in other offices next year to help our clients stay up to date with risk management, as board risk issues continue to evolve. ‘What’s going on? What’s going to happen to me? What’s my life going to be?’ were all questions that ran through the mind of Alex Noble, a paralegal in our Sydney statutory insurance team, when an on-field rugby injury left him fighting for his life in ICU at just 16. Following a four-day coma and a diagnosis of C4 quadriplegia, Alex’s first words were to his brother Zac, who was considering not sitting his year 12 exams because of his fear and worry about Alex: ‘If I fight, you fight.’ These words became a war cry as Alex’s community rallied around him, watching in awe as he fought to defy his diagnosis. In a wide-ranging conversation with partner Leigh Parker, organised by our Diversity, Inclusion & Wellbeing team, Alex shared his inspirational story. From learning to breathe again to travelling the world, starting his own business to skydiving, his story is about the power of mastering your own mind, finding happiness and taking risks to achieve your goals – no matter how out of reach they may seem. He shared his philosophy for finding happiness and peace, and ‘The Noble Way’, a term he coined for reaching your true potential. Thank you Alex for sharing your unforgettable and inspiring journey. How Australia’s philanthropic sector has grown, and the joy that impactful giving can bring to people, were some of the issues explored at our special Family Office networking evening in Melbourne. Partner Frank Hinoporos reflected on how philanthropy offers people a canvas to express their values. Partner Emma Woolley chaired an insightful and wide-ranging discussion with generosity and life legacy adviser Peter Winneke and Australian Communities Foundation Directory of Engagement & Advisory Olivia Clark-Moffatt. Peter spoke about the importance of philanthropic role models and how to strengthen the culture of giving in Australia. Olivia spoke about how advisers can help people start a values-based conversation about what legacy they want to leave, and how the ACF has found that sharing stories of giving sparks joy and inspiration in others. Thank you to everyone for attending and our guests for their generous insights. High-risk customers and politically exposed persons (PEPs) can pose risks for businesses under AML/CTF (anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing) rules. In our latest podcast episode, Langton Clarke and Andrew Ong discuss the risks, whether or not a business should choose to onboard a high-risk customer and why an AML/CTF program should be specifically tailored to a business and its risk appetite. 🎧 Tune in on Spotify: https://lnkd.in/gNUhBiYP 🎧 Tune in on Apple Podcasts: https://lnkd.in/gH3Y9YDf #AMLCTF #risk #podcast
