Our 2025 Estimators' Conference has kicked off in Brisbane. Yesterday we crowned Gilbert Town as Estimator of the Year and Andrew Gillespie as Cadet Estimator of the Year. A huge congratulations to these well deserved recipients! Gilbert joined Hutchies in 2015 and is part of Justin Clark's team in Sydney. Andrew started at Hutchies as a cadet under our National Quantity Surveyor Josh Chau and is now part of the Cy Milburn team in Brisbane. #hutchies #estcon #awards #estimating #construction #eoty #ceoty

Building Australia since 1912
About us
Hutchies is no run-of-the-mill construction company. We’re a family business, led by five generations of Hutchinsons. Since 1912 we’ve grown to become Australia’s largest privately owned construction company. We believe our success has a lot to do with our distinctive culture, where relationships are key. We’re passionate about investing in our most valuable resource — our people. Our industry leading training provides opportunities for skills development that nurture our teams from grass roots through to future leaders. We’re proud of our 90% VET completion rate, compared to the Australian average of 60%. In 2017 and 2011 our accredited training saw us named Large Employer of the Year at the Australian Training Awards. We are the only builder to ever be awarded the title twice, and we pin this success on our philosophy of giving back to the industry and broader community. We’re local, national builders. We love staying connected with the communities in which we work, giving back and doing the right thing. We support the community through local sports teams, pop-up training workshops, and hosting students at our construction sites. We believe in a far go for all and are committed to building a diverse and representative employee base. We celebrate diversity in our workforce and encourage innovation in all areas of the business. We are longtime supporters of the National Association of Women in Construction, and we are proud to have placed 320 Indigenous workers in construction jobs through our Indigenous Employment program, Statim-Yaga (Start Work). Our tight-knit team culture has all the benefits and opportunities that only a large organisation can offer. With 10 sectors and 70+ different career opportunities accessible via Hutchies we’re regularly looking for new people to become a part of our Hutchies family. H U M A N O F H U T C H I E S Continuing the theme of our celebrations of women in construction, last week Georgie Laverick, one of Hutchies’ Melbourne Project Managers, was part of an International Women’s Day event at our Sacred Heart Girls’ College project. Around 300 students, staff and consultants took part in a panel discussion on career pathways in construction and the built environment along with exclusive site tours around their new sports and wellness precinct throughout the day. Three out of Hutchies’ five people on this job are women, proudly led by Georgie who joined Hutchies in 2017. Hutchies is proud to have an incredible cohort of women on and off site across Australia who contribute to the success of our projects, business and communities every day. Our workforce numbers over the last 12 months are so encouraging for the next generation construction leaders: > 11 women were promoted internally within Hutchies > 53 new women joined the company > 6% of our on site workforce are women > 30% of our 2024/25 Summer School program were women > 48% of Hutchies’ cadets are women > 28% of Hutchies’ contract administrators are women Sacred Heart Girls' College / SEMZ Video by Sarah Louise Photography #iwd2025 #humanofhutchies #construction #cadet #careers #womeninconstruction

H U M A N O F H U T C H I E S To celebrate International Women’s Day, we spoke to Shona who recently joined Hutchies in our 2024/25 Cadet Summer School. Shona shared her experience in the construction industry and her shift to a cadetship with Hutchies. “For nearly six years, I have worked as a finance manager in the construction industry. From my very first day, walking into meetings as the only woman in the room, I became accustomed to a male-dominated environment. Recently, I shifted my career direction and joined Hutchies as part of the 2024/25 Summer School program. For the first time, I found myself no longer the sole woman in the room but often surrounded by other women. This experience made me realise that the industry must embrace this positive change and stop conditioning women to accept the male-dominated norm. Throughout the program and my transition into a team, it has become clear that Hutchies is leading the way in actively encouraging women to join the construction industry and supporting their career development and success. While I have been fortunate to work alongside incredible male professionals who have supported and taught me throughout my career, I am excited about a future where young professionals will look back on their influences and see a diverse list of mentors.” #iwd2025 #humanofhutchies #construction #cadet #careers

This Sunday is Clean Up Australia Day. Hutchies has a running tradition of taking family and friends over to North Straddie for the weekend to help with their annual beach clean up. Since 2018 we’ve removed more than 1,000kg of waste off the beach including ropes, foam, bottles, lighters, glow sticks, plastics & containers, bottle lids, an uncountable number of smaller micro plastics and much more. This is a joint initiative between Straddie Brewing Company, Hutchies, SeaLink Marine & Tourism, Point Lookout Surf Life Saving Club, Koala Graphix, Reef Check Australia and Bo Bean’s Coffee. If you’re out and about over the weekend, join the biggest ever clean up on Sunday 2 March. Hutchies completed the dismantle of 360 Queen Street’s jump form system earlier this month. That means we’re on the home stretch to finishing off this state of the art new office tower later this year. We’ve poured a total of 32,370 cubic metres of concrete to date with 2 levels of structure remaining. This is the equivalent of 13 Olympic swimming pools. We’re expecting to top out next month. When complete, 360 Queen Street will be one of the most technologically advanced buildings in Brisbane’s golden triangle.
