A brave group of INPEX team members recently took the plunge (literally) to raise awareness for prostate cancer as part of the Central Park Plunge. Among those descending the 133 metre-high building was INPEX Government Affairs and Regulatory Approvals Manager, John Williams and INPEX Executive Vice President Operations, Chris Wilson. As both prostate cancer survivors themselves, they were thrilled to be involved. John aptly noted, “It was a risky situation being on top of a 33-storey building, but it’s even more dangerous not to be aware of your prostate health.” What an exhilarating moment for a tremendously important cause. Kudos to the entire team for your inspiring efforts and dedication to fundraise for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. Gents, let this be a reminder to stay aware of your risk of prostate cancer.

This year marked the 15th annual Darwin Harbour Clean Up, organised by Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation. The initiative aims to raise awareness of the impact of rubbish entering our waterways, encouraging everyone to "Bin it or take it with you!". A group of INPEX volunteers participated in this year’s event, spending the day collecting items along Elizabeth River Bridge which including general litter, tyres, fishing rods, and mattresses. Maintenance Campaign Coordinator, Samuel Varghese said: “The Darwin Harbour Clean Up was a great opportunity to connect with other organisations and businesses in the area, as we all worked together to improve our local environment and prevent rubbish from entering the harbour.”

We recently met with the bright recipients of the INPEX Aboriginal Scholarships at The University of Western Australia (UWA). Since 2015, INPEX has been providing the scholarships to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with their undergraduate studies at UWA. Degrees pursued by the current cohort include Engineering, Criminology, Conservation Biology, and Indigenous Knowledge Heritage. “It was wonderful to connect with the students and learn about their fields of study. They are exploring areas that are well-positioned for long and successful careers. Their futures are undoubtedly bright,” INPEX Vice President Operations and Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Champion, Joe Vetter said. “These scholarships are about providing students with financial support so they can focus on their studies and get the most out of their university experience. As part of our commitments in our Stretch RAP, we are proud to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education participation,” Joe said.

INPEX Australia President Director, Tetsu Murayama and INPEX General Manager Northern Territory, Richard Finch recently had the pleasure of meeting with the Northern Territory’s new Chief Minister, the Hon. Lia Finocchiaro MLA, and Deputy Chief Minister, the Hon. Gerard Maley MLA during NT Resources Week. Their discussions focused on the importance of the Territory to Australia and the Indo-Pacific region, and INPEX’s potential future investment at Ichthys LNG to support carbon capture and storage, onshore facility expansion, and community investments. “Without CCS, reaching net-zero is simply not possible.” INPEX Lead CCS Engineer Mathieu Muller captivated the audience on the importance of carbon capture and storage (CCS) during the NT Resources Week ‘NT Clean Energy and Decarbonisation’ conference. Mathieu highlighted the global significance of CCS in achieving decarbonisation and detailed INPEX’s CCS activities, including the technical aspects of the Bonaparte CCS assessment project – which we are engaging in with TotalEnergies and Woodside Energy. “CCS is a mature and well understood technology which has been used safely for many, many decades. Which is why it forms a cornerstone of our strategy to decarbonise our operations while ensuring a stable supply of diverse and clean energy sources,” Mathieu said. ‘Sustainable energy for the long haul’ was the theme of INPEX Executive Vice President Operations Chris Wilson’s keynote address at the NT Resources Week SEAAOC conference held in Darwin this week. Chris shared insights on decarbonising Ichthys LNG through improved operational efficiency and carbon capture and storage activities, while diversifying our energy mix with wind, solar, and hybrid technologies. “We believe Australia and the Northern Territory in particular, is well positioned to contribute to the energy transition, while supporting regional energy security. And we’re proud to be playing our part in this. “We could not do what we do without the support we receive from the Northern Territory’s people, the Darwin community, local businesses and from every level of government,” Chris said. We’re here for the long haul. We’re here for a brighter energy future.
