At Land Forces International Land Defence Exposition last month, Managing Director John Fry provided an update to the Australian Defence Magazine on a range of activities that have occurred over the last 18 months. This includes the delivery of Kongsberg Defence Australia's components of the #NASAMS Air Defence system to Australian Army, the #StrikeMaster launcher for the Naval Strike Missile Coastal Defence System that employs the Thales Bushmaster flatbed utility vehicle, the accelerated acquisition and successful live firing of #NSM at RIMPAC, the delivery of Joint Strike Missiles for the Royal Australian Air Force’s F35 by next year. First ever visit by a Norwegian Defence Minister to Australia 🇳🇴🤝🇦🇺   On September 5th, Norwegian Defence Minister Bjørn Arild Gram made the first official visit by a Norwegian Defence Minister to Australia.   Highlights include the opening of Kongsberg Defence Australia new facility in Adelaide alongside Australian Minister for Defence Industry Pat Conroy and Australia's announcement of acquiring Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace made JSM missiles for F-35 jets.   In Canberra, Defence Minister met with Australia's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles and Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia Tim Watts. The delegation along with the Minister also toured the Australian War Memorial and attended the Last Post ceremony with Air Marshal Leon Phillips OAM. The Minister also engaged in discussions on Australian defence strategy at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute.   Minister Gram emphasized the importance of defence cooperation with like-minded nations, noting Norway's participation in the 2025 Talisman Sabre exercise. Strengthening key partnerships between Australia and Norway. 🇦🇺🤝🏼🇳🇴 The President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, Eirik Lie, recently hosted a visit by our Deputy PM and Minister for Defence, the Hon Richard Marles MP, together with Norway’s Minister of Defence, Bjorn Arild Gram. The visit took place at Arsenalet Industrial Park in Kongsberg and included a tour of Nexus, #KONGSBERG’s brand new missile production plant, #NASAMS production and the mobile #NOMADS air defence capability, along with presentations and discussions on existing and future collaboration. In August, the Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Pat Conroy MP, announced Kongsberg Defence Australia as a Strategic Partner of the Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance Enterprise, with the commitment to establish a missile manufacturing and maintenance facility in Newcastle, NSW, for the Naval Strike Missile for the Royal Australian Navy and Joint Strike Missile for the Royal Australian Air Force. The Managing Director of Kongsberg Defence Australia, John Fry, said ‘This visit to Kongsberg by our Deputy Prime Minister allowed him to see first-hand what our new missile manufacturing and maintenance facility in Newcastle will be like. GRAM TOK IMOT BESØK FRÅ AUSTRALIAS FORSVARSMINISTER 🥁🤝 Hans Majestets Kongens Garde stilte med æresvakt då Australias visestatsminister og forsvarsminister Richard Marles kom til Oslo for å møte forsvarsminister Bjørn Arild Gram (Sp) onsdag. Besøket fann stad berre to veker etter at forsvarsminister Gram møtte Marles i den australske hovudstaden Canberra. Der vart dei to samde om å vidareutvikle forsvars- og industrisamarbeidet mellom Noreg og Australia, og det vart kunngjort at Noreg vil styrke ambassaden i Canberra med ein forsvarsråd. I tillegg vil Forsvarsdepartementet i samarbeid med Innovasjon Noreg tilsette ein forsvarsindustriråd for å støtte norsk industri si satsing i Australia. Styrkt forsvarsindustrielt samarbeid stod også på dagsordenen då Marles møtte Gram i Oslo. – I ei tid kor autoritære statar søker nærare saman og rustar opp militært, er det avgjerande at vi styrker det felles forsvaret vårt gjennom eit tettare forsvarsindustrielt samarbeid med likesinna land. Tryggingssituasjonen i Asia og Europa heng saman, og krigen i Ukraina har vist kor viktig det er å ha ein solid forsvarsindustri, seier Bjørn Arild Gram (Sp). Tidlegare i haust kunngjorde australske styresmakter ei avtale med Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace(KDA) om at det skal byggast eit nytt missilproduksjonsanlegg i den australske byen Newcastle nær Sydney, som skal levere missil til det australske forsvaret (ADF). Avtala inneber at det for første gong blir etablert produksjon av dei norske missila JSM og NSM utanfor Kongsberg. Onsdag reiste Gram og Marles til Kongsberg der dei fekk ei omvising i KDAs nye missilfabrikk Nexus, som fabrikken i Newcastle skal modellerast etter. Det er venta at bygginga av missilfabrikken i Newcastle skal starta opp seinare i år. – Norske missil og luftvern er i ferd med å bli ein viktig del av forsvaret av Stillehavets sjøvegar. Det representerer ikkje berre eit nytt kapittel for den norske forsvarsindustrien, men er også eit svært viktig bidrag til global tryggleik. Forsvarsindustrien skaper ikkje berre inntekter, men han fyller også kritiske gap i vestlege og allierte lands evne til avskrekking, og styrker dermed vår felles tryggleik, avsluttar Gram. NORGE SKAL DELTA PÅ STORØVELSE I 2025 🚢 Norge deltar i den australsk-amerikanske storøvelsen Talisman Sabre neste år. Det kunngjorde forsvarsminister Bjørn Arild Gram (Sp) da han møtte den australske forsvarsministeren Richard Marles i Canberra. – Det blir en betydelig norsk deltakelse og et stort løft for Forsvaret, sier Gram. Den britiskledede hangarskipsgruppen der Norge deltar med en fregatt inngår i øvelsen, men Norge planlegger å sende ytterligere styrker til Australia. Det er aktuelt å delta både med luftstyrker og spesialstyrker, forteller forsvarsministeren. Gram understreker at øvelsen ikke skal gå ut over tilstedeværelse i egne nærområde. Forsvaret vil også, i samråd med allierte, sikre tilstedeværelse og situasjonsforståelse i våre nærområder mens øvelsen pågår. - Øvelsen er en unik mulighet for norske styrker til å trene på å operere i en stor koalisjon. Dette er en god mulighet til å operere nye avanserte kapasiteter sammen med nære allierte og partnere som har samme materiell. Erfaringene vi høster styrker også norsk sikkerhet, sier Gram – som er den første norske forsvarsministeren som besøker Australia. 📣 Exciting news out of the US. Today, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has announced it is building a state-of-the-art missile production facility in the United States. 🇺🇸 This announcement follows expansion in Norway and the recently announced missile factory here in Newcastle, Australia. 🇳🇴🇦🇺 Located near key US Navy facilities, the site in James City County, Virginia, this facility will provide additional production capacity, sustainment and in-country tech refresh capabilities for both KONGSBERG’s #NSM and #JSM.
