NAB's customer Philip Waller has bravely spoken up about his experience of being targeted by a scammer. By sharing his story, he’s helping other consumers recognise and avoid remote access scams. Our Targeting Scams Report revealed that $256 million was stolen from Australians through remote access scams in 2023. This was the second highest financial loss by scam type after investment scams.
Remote access scams were among the top scams targeting businesses last year, according to the ACCC’s National Anti-Scam Centre. These scams often begin with an out-of-the-blue phone call from a "telecommunications provider", "technology company" or "bank" requesting remote access to your device to deal with a “virus” or “fix an issue”.
