Last week, we hosted a Job Scam Fusion Cell workshop with participants from a range of sectors. This fusion cell is a time-limited taskforce designed to coordinate job scam disruption and prevention activities. Thanks to everyone who came to the workshop which was full of collaborative activities aimed at establishing a foundation for the fusion cell. Scammers are targeting older Australians and their families by impersonating aged care providers. Help protect your consumer networks by sharing this advice from the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care.

We’re coordinating a fusion cell to tackle job and employment scams. These types of scams often impact CALD communities. We’re bringing together the expertise of law enforcement and major organisations including digital platforms, banks, cryptocurrency and technology firms. We’ll develop strategies for disrupting and preventing these scams, including by educating target groups. We welcome the publication of the Exposure Draft of the Scams Prevention Framework Bill. Mandatory and enforceable codes are an essential component of success in making Australia a harder target for scammers. We recognise the contributions across government and industry to reach this important milestone. We’ll continue to work closely with the Government and other key stakeholders throughout the consultation period. 

We’ve started a scam website takedown service targeting online shopping scams and other types of scams. Scammers create fake websites impersonating well-known brands. They advertise amazing sales on social media and in web search results which can look legitimate. If a consumer sees an ad online or on social media with deals too good to be true, it's often a scam.
