“The world of mining is so diverse. There are a lot of things that I'm doing now that I hadn't even heard of before or even dreamt about. Really, you can go anywhere if you've got an open mind and you want to learn more.” Meet Alex 👋. A passionate mining geologist at Newmont Cadia, who started her career in the UK before moving to Australia to experience different types and sites of mining. Alex says she loves the variety that geology offers, with no day the same. She deals with a wide range of people and projects, including planning with engineers, analysing lab results, sampling underground and designing drill programs with drillers. What motivates Alex are the endless opportunities to explore and try new things. She says there's so much that she can learn at Cadia and that she feels like she’s only at the tip of the iceberg. Newmont Cadia is proud to support The Orchard, a refuge for women and children escaping domestic and family violence in Orange, NSW. Recently, the team donated a new cubby house, mud kitchen, and outdoor furniture to help create a safe and welcoming environment for the children. Special thanks go to the Fleet Reliability and Planning, Fixed Plant Maintenance, Supply and Logistics, and Newmont Operation Leadership teams for their contributions in making this donation possible. In addition, Cadia employees also participated in a garden blitz at The Orchard, cleaning out raised garden beds, installing stepping stones, moving mulch and granite, securing sleepers, and planting a variety of greenery to enhance the outdoor area. Newmont Cadia is honoured to contribute to such an important cause, creating a space of care and comfort for those experiencing a difficult situation. #CommunitySupport #NewmontCadia #TheOrchard #GardenBlitz #DomesticViolenceAwareness #StrongerTogether #MiningAndCommunities

“Coming from Melbourne, I felt that a lot of people - including myself - didn’t really appreciate how essential [mining] is to basically everything we have.”   That’s Newmont’s Tianchen L.’s honest assessment of community perceptions around the importance of the mining industry to everyday life. He said even his own perceptions changed once he entered into Newmont’s graduate program as an automation engineer, an experience which opened his eyes to just how crucial the gold and copper that Newmont mines is to the electronics we all use, as well as the transition to renewable energy.   Tianchen says there’s no better place that Australia to get a job in mining thanks to the endless opportunities and professional development that is on offer. He says to be successful in the industry, it is important to have a respect for safety and strong communication skills, something which helps him deal with contractors and engineers from all over the world. We love your sensible advice for the next generation of mining engineers Tianchen, and we are so proud to have you as part of the Newmont team. Watch Tianchen’s full interview here: https://lnkd.in/gVpKSAwN   Keep an eye out for the next intake for Newmont Australia’s award-winning graduate program in early 2025!

Small changes can make a world of difference in the complex mining processing environment. Switching from forged steel grinding media to high chrome media in the ball mill at the Newmont Red Chris mine in remote north-western British Columbia in Canada produced some tremendous results which reduced input costs by improving efficiency to the tune of a 26% decrease in media consumption and a 43% reduction in lime consumption! Relocating reagent dosing was another piece in the mill efficiency jigsaw, with the changes overall leading to recovery improvements of 0.7% for copper and 2.3% for gold. TANAMI’S GOT TALENT! Newmont’s Tanami operations hosted ABC Alice Springs rural reporter Victoria Ellis and cameraman Sam Druce this week, with the energetic and intrepid duo donning their hard hats and steel caps to interview and film some of our best and brightest from exploration, the Tanami Expansion (TE2) project, Yapa Crew, underground, processing and site services. The visit provided the ABC with an insight into one of the world’s most isolated mine sites, from the exploration and processing of gold to the latest technology improving efficiency and safety, plus the future plans to extend the life of the mine by constructing an underground crusher and 1.5km deep shaft. But perhaps the most enlightening aspect of the visit for the media crew was encountering Newmont’s biggest asset – our people. Employees from all different backgrounds and teams put aside their nerves to talk about the importance of their roles and why they love working in mining. We are so proud of our employees and for the genuine commitment they have for their work and for the safety and wellbeing of their teammates. Thanks for sharing your stories with the ABC crew and thank you to Tori and Sam for shining the spotlight on the people, technology and hard work behind the search for this essential and beautiful golden commodity! #NewmontMining #MiningCareers #BehindTheScenes #TanamiOperations #SustainableMining #WorkplaceSafety #LifeAtNewmont #TE2Project #ABCNews #NorthernTerritory #AustralianMining

Today at IMARC, Newmont’s Brooke Adamson, Ore Processing Manager - Final Product at Cadia, shared insights into optimizing production and fostering a safe, inclusive culture at Australia’s only molybdenum plant. Brooke’s presentation highlighted Cadia’s journey to build a resilient team culture, overcome complex process challenges, and implement advanced safety systems in molybdenum processing.   Since commissioning in 2022, Cadia’s molybdenum plant has transformed a concentrate penalty element into a multi-million-dollar revenue stream, with innovative approaches like the use of carbon dioxide for safer pH control and enhanced recovery. The team overcame challenges to achieve significant recovery improvements by prioritizing operational discipline and safety.   Brooke was joined by her team members, who attended International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) to support her and gain insights into industry best practices. Newmont is proud to foster a culture that encourages team empowerment, innovation, and continuous improvement.   #NewmontCadia #IMARC2024 #MolybdenumProcessing #MiningInnovation #TeamEmpowerment #SafeMining

Try before you buy! Our team at Newmont Red Chris in remote north-western British Columbia in Canada was keen to improve the performance of the mill flotation circuit for more consistent metallurgical performance while making maximum use of scarce floorspace. After a pilot program using Eriez StackCell® technology, the team found the addition of a new flotation column to the cleaner circuit and the incorporation of two Eriez StackCells as pre-roughers improved overall performance. Piloting in tandem with vendors means performance including comparisons with existing equipment can be assessed before implementation – aided by some help from Rio Tinto’s Kennecott Copper operation. Read more about the Red Chris flotation circuit journey in the summarised paper below, presented at the AusIMM MillOps 2024 conference. #Mining #Metallurgy #MillOps24 #Newmont
