Meet Jake 👋 He’s a Process Maintenance Technician/Mechanical Fitter – Dry Plant at Newmont’s Boddington mine. After working overseas for 12 years, Jake wanted a role that was closer to home and entered mining in 2022. He joined Newmont in late 2023 at Boddington’s processing plant, where he inspects, repairs and maintains equipment in the dry plant such as high-pressure grinding rolls, conveyors, feeders and primary and secondary crushing equipment. The best part of the job? Working with a supportive tight-knit crew who are always there to lend a helping hand when needed, plus a flexible roster which means he’s back home every weekend doing what he loves – spending time with family, camping, fishing and surfing. Jake says he intends to stay in mining long-term thanks to the many career opportunities to step into different and more senior roles, plus the salary and healthcare benefits are hard to beat.    Newmont Boddington is recruiting more Mechanical Fitters – Dry Plant. As a large NSW regional employer and long-term investor through our Cadia mine near Orange, Newmont supports the Environmental Planning and Assessment Amendment (State Significant Development) Bill 2024 to be considered shortly by the NSW Legislative Council. In the current regulatory environment, the mining sector needs the certainty required for long-term investments which in turn fund better services and infrastructure for the people of NSW through taxes and royalties. This Amendment Bill not only supports the responsible mining industry which NSW needs to contribute to global net zero goals, local jobs and economic growth. It will also ensure the efficient and orderly progression of essential development and infrastructure in NSW, including renewable energy, hospitals, schools, universities and housing. Without the certainty created by this Bill, the services and infrastructure required by our local communities will be put at risk. #NewmontCadia #ResponsibleMining ##NetZero #RenewableEnergy NSW Minerals Council Paul Scully Mark Speakman

“You’ve got to be on the ball…a lot of people put their trust in you.” So says Peter “Dunny” Dunford, Crane Operator at Newmont Australia’s Tanami operations. For this straight-talking, no-nonsense genuine bloke, his colleagues’ safety is a responsibility he takes very seriously, even with 40 years’ experience in working in mining and energy. Starting out as a fitter on the railways swinging a pick and axe, Dunny learnt how to drive trucks and eventually moved into crane operations, where he has mastered the art of lifting tonnes of material for the last two decades. Dunny says there’s a lot of skill in crane operations and it’s essential to plan before any lift. He enjoys passing on his knowledge to younger crew and says everybody deserves a chance at learning a new skill – having the courage to ask for help is the first step. He describes Tanami as a happy place where everyone is content with the work they do and willing to help each other out. He enjoys the flexibility his roster provides, allowing him to pursue his passions of mud crabbing, offshore fishing and riding his Harley motorbike around the Top End with mates. “What makes mining a great career choice is the amount of opportunities you have to work with different types of people, disciplines and places.”   That’s what attracted Angela Mota Torres to mining and into Newmont’s graduate program, which she recommends to any university student who is curious about the industry. Angela now works as a Mobile Maintenance Engineer at Newmont’s Tanami operations, where she says she enjoys “getting into the nitty gritty” to problem solve the different challenges she faces. Angela says one the things that she didn’t know about mining before entering the industry was the variety of recreational activities onsite – she loves the trivia nights, which allow her to socialise with her work colleagues, as well as put her general knowledge to the test! We love your enthusiasm for mining as a career choice Angela, and we are so proud to have you as part of the Newmont team. Watch Angela’s full interview here: https://lnkd.in/gA-tXs-D Keep an eye out for the next intake for Newmont Australia’s award-winning graduate program in early 2025!
