We look forward to celebrate our nation's cultural diversity tomorrow for Australia Day. With the public holiday falling on Monday, 27 January, all OCTEC offices will be closed on Monday, reopening on Tuesday, 28 January.

It was a day filled with laughs, joy, accomplishment and celebrations as we congratulated our first group of Carrington Centennial Care trainees at their graduation. They all finished their studies with a Certificate III in Individual Support. We received plenty of wonderful feedback, especially in regard to trainers Brett and Sherryl. Carrington emphasised how the custom training schedule benefitted their staff and the organisation, enabling them to fill positions throughout the year and provide better support to their employees. Congratulations to all the trainees and Carrington Centennial Centre!

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner with my fellow OCTEC Limited Australia board members and past Mayors and Orange City Council Councillors, Jason Hamling and Reg Kidd. It’s always inspiring to share stories and reflect on the incredible work being done in our community. We served together on council for 20 years, and I am proud to continue serving to this day. As Chair of the OCTEC Limited Board since 2007, I am immensely proud of the organisation’s journey and achievements. From humble beginnings in Orange 40 years ago with just three staff members, OCTEC has grown under the outstanding leadership of CEO Andrew McDougall OAM. Today, this not-for-profit organisation employs over 500 staff across offices in NSW, ACT, Victoria, and Queensland, and Headquartered in Regional NSW, Orange. On behalf of the OCTEC Board, I want to thank Andrew and the entire team for their unwavering dedication and support. This year marks another milestone in OCTEC’s commitment to empowering individuals through education, employment services, and community engagement. Here’s to continuing OCTEC’s legacy of making a meaningful difference in people’s lives for many more years to come! Central West Cafe Collaboration is a new networking group aiming to connect in the NSW region with the main focus to work together to benefit NDIS participants. We look forward to working with our regional network to ensure participants are supported the best they can be.

Musician and fervent campaigner for inclusion, access and equality, Elly-May Barnes leads the quest alongside youami's Tim Rogers, and Killing Heidi's Ella Hooper to create two bands made up entirely of musicians living with disability for the Mundi Mundi Bash.
