Last week, the South Australian Legislative Council passed the Automated External Defibrillators Amendment Bill 2024. This will require AEDs to be installed within floor areas that are publicly accessible, within a relevant building, defined as a building that has a floor area of 600m2 or more; or a building prescribed by regulations. The new legislation will impact landlords of private assets who must be compliant from 1 January 2026. Property Council SA sent a member an Advocacy Alert to its members at the time of this announcement. If you are interested in receiving critical updates on legislative matters in real time, please contact us to find out how.

Adaptive Reuse is a concept now familiar to many in the property industry. Could it be a silver bullet to the housing crisis or simply a pipe dream? Last week, these questions were discussed in depth at the Property Council SA Adaptive Reuse Forum, held as a lunch in the magnificent SkyCity Adelaide Ballroom. We were treated to an excellent and sophisticated panel on the benefits and challenges of adaptive reuse as a method of creating more housing supply, and we thank our generous panelists for their time and contributions: - Trevor Cooke (Commercial and General) - Yaara Plaves (Hames Sharley) - Michael Bennett (Commonwealth Bank of Australia) - Nick Roach (Arup) - Nick Brisbane (Ethos Urban) - Emily Nankivell (Future Urban - moderator) We would also like to recognise the South Australian winner of the Property Council of Australia/Rider Levett Bucknall RLB Innovation and Excellence Awards State Development of the Year, which was announced on 21 August. We congratulate the development of 83 Pirie, nominated by Woods Bagot and Cbus Property, and owned by Cbus Property. We extend our gratitude to our event partners, Future Urban X Ethos Urban, and our supporting partners Arup and BluBuilt Constructions Pty Ltd, as well as all of our members and guests who attended and supported the event. #adaptivereuse #housing #supply #adelaide
