Handcrafted in Australia since 1932

About us

In 1932 our founder, Reginald Murray Williams AO, CMG began to make bush saddlery and boots for sale, while camped at Nepabunna, in South Australia's remote Gammon Ranges. Here R.M. first met 'Dollar Mick Smith', an itinerant saddler. The two men after much trial and error were able to fashion a pair of stockman's riding boots. Over 85 years on, R.M. Williams continues to make world renowned boots, accessories and men's and women's apparel that are purposefully designed and sustainable to enjoy on life's adventures. Today, R.M.Williams has 65 retail stores in Australia, 2 stores in New Zealand, 3 stores in the USA and 3 stores in the UK as well as over 900 stockists around the globe. R.M.Williams is a global company, yet will always remain passionate about the Australian bush. In 2020 Tattarang acquired 100% of R.M.Williams from L Catterton bringing the brand back into Australian hands for the first time since 2014. Tattarang is one of Australia's largest private investment groups owned by Andrew and Nicola Forrest. The investment of the Forrest family will ensure the Australian craftsmanship of R.M.Williams continues to be loved and worn all around the world.

We’re excited to share our first ever Sustainability Playbook, which we’re launching alongside our B Corp™ announcement. Both of these achievements are powerful milestones in our ongoing sustainability journey, which began in earnest 92 years ago around a campfire in the Flinders Ranges. Our founder, Reginald Murray ‘RM’ Williams, made a promise back then to craft products with integrity and purpose, prioritising quality, durability and circularity. We continue to honour his legacy and have seen his vision further fortified under the stewardship of Andrew and Nicola Forrest.    This Sustainability Playbook shares our holistic efforts to Craft a Better Future. We’re far from having all the answers yet, but we’re proud to acknowledge achievements made thus far, and to forge ahead with transparency. The R.M.Williams Sustainability Playbook is available online now. https://lnkd.in/gKx_jArs

B Corp certification validates a business's holistic efforts to generate positive social and environmental impact across all areas of their operation, focusing on five key areas of Governance, Customers, Community, Environment and Workers. Achieving B Corp status is a big milestone for R.M.Williams, and marks an important step in our ongoing 'Crafting a better future' strategy. Yesterday, our CEO Paul Grosmann stood alongside other industry leaders at the Ragtrader ‘Breakfast Of Big Ideas’. This inspirational meeting of minds focused on conquering challenges, embracing change, and driving innovation. Speaking with Assia Benmedjdoub alongside Seafolly CEO Brendan Santamaria, the sold-out networking event allowed us to share insights on how we honour our rich heritage while adapting to meet the ever-evolving needs of our valued customers.

We’re proud to have joined forces with Seamless, supporting their mission to drive positive change in the Australian clothing industry and transform the way we design, consume, and recycle clothing and footwear. With over 1.4 billion items of clothing manufactured or imported into Australia each year, it’s imperative that we work together to extend the lifecycle of our wardrobe, cut down on waste clothing and think differently about the clothes we own and come into contact with.   We know our founder, Reginald Murray ‘RM’ Williams would be incredibly proud of this work, as it mirrors his enduring promise to craft quality products, worthy of life’s adventures. His core belief that a pair of boots could last a lifetime when they are well made, well looked after and able to be repaired continues to guide us today, and will enrich our ongoing journey with Seamless.   “The concepts at the heart of circularity – care and repair – have been central to R.M.Williams since our founding 90 plus years ago. As an iconic Australian brand with such a legacy we felt signing on as a Seamless Foundation member was a great opportunity to contribute to the industry’s transition to circularity and continue our own sustainability journey.” – Angela Winkle, Chief Sustainability and Strategy Officer
