Delivering the finest healthcare to rural and remote Australia

About us

The RFDS is a national, charitable, health organisation delivering primary healthcare and 24-hour emergency services for those that live in rural and remote Australia. Long known as one of the largest aeromedical organisations in the world, the RFDS delivers health care where mainstream health services are not available, using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology and a broad-reaching ground-service fleet. Supported by a vast number of volunteers and supporters, the RFDS provides a lifeline for those that live, work and travel in rural and remote Australia, and has been doing so for over nine decades.

  • Today is Close the Gap Day, an opportunity for the Australian community to stand together with First Australians to demand health equality for all. Almost 60% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people live outside major cities, in rural and remote areas. The Royal Flying Doctor Service is privileged to work with and provide services to many peoples and communities. As a healthcare organisation we are committed to Close the Gap and playing our part to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We are proud of our work with partner organisations, including in efforts to continue building the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rural health workforce, and providing critical healthcare services.

  • Congratulations to our own Brannan Clarke, who has successfully completed his aircraft engineering apprenticeship! 🔧 Brannan Clarke started at the RFDS Adelaide Base in January 2020 and late last year completed his Diploma in Aeroskills (Mechanical) including all the theoretical and practical training. To support his transition from apprentice to licensed aircraft engineer, Brannan is off to our Alice Springs Base to begin a six-month secondment. After four years of hard work and dedication, we look forward to having Brannan as part of the Flying Doctor Team for many years to come. ✈️ 📲 Current RFDS career opportunities: https://lnkd.in/gRC_H5i

  • Meet Sophie and Tim - our two new engineering apprentices in WA👋 Sophie has a longstanding interest in mechanics and engineering, and came across aircraft engineering through skydiving. She chose to apply for an apprenticeship with us because she understands how vital the RFDS is for the Western Australian community. Tim has been working in our RFDS WA Stores team and knows the ins and outs of the service. We are so excited to see him develop throughout the apprenticeship. We are thrilled to have them join the engineering team! ❤️💙

  • Just the other week over 30+ RFDS fundraising team members from across the country came together in Sydney for dinner, kicking off the Fundraising Institute Australia Conference in style! 🍽️💙 Our RFDS Corporate Partnerships leads also gathered for our annual national partnerships workshop—a chance to reflect, celebrate eveyone's collective efforts, and push their thinking forward. A huge thank you to HCF Australia , one of RFDS' Major National Partners, for hosting us at their HQ. And an extra shoutout to Richie from Ensemble Strategy , who facilited the day and challenged everyone to think bigger and bolder! 🚀 #FIAConference #RFDS #Fundraising
