Since its inception in 2022, the #FutureMineralsForum (#FMF) has recorded impressive and unprecedented growth. In 2022, the forum had 32 country representatives at the Ministerial Roundtable, 6 governmental and non-governmental organizations, 3,689 attendees, and 5 MOUs. In 2023, #FMF topped the previous edition with 63 government representatives at the Ministerial Roundtable, 21 governmental and non-governmental organizations, 9,000 attendees, and 60 MOUs. This growth highlights its growing global status and impact on the mineral sector. In 2024, the forum witnessed the participation of 75 government representatives at the Ministerial Roundtable, 35 governmental and non-governmental organizations, 14,000 attendees, and 75 MOUs and business agreements. Now in its fourth edition, #FMF25 will feature 100 government representatives at the Ministerial Roundtable. This extensive collaboration will include working groups composed of government bodies, international organizations, trade associations, and NGOs coming together to drive forward the shared goals of sustainability and innovation in the global mineral sector. FMF 2025 is also focused on delivering investment partnerships in supplier countries across the entire mineral value chain. Beyond this, the forum will shed light on the importance of social impact initiatives in the mining and minerals sector and their role in developing economies and societies. What’s more, the forum will welcome high-level speakers from top-tier companies across the entire mineral value chain. Some of our confirmed speakers include Tom Palmer, CEO of Newmont Corporation; Jonathan Price, President and CEO of Teck Resources; Dominic Barton, Chairman of Rio Tinto; Mark Cutifani, Chairman of Vale Base Metals; Robert Friedland, Founder and Co-CEO of Ivanhoe Mines; Jeremy Weir, Chairman and CEO of Trafigura and other distinguished personalities.

Yesterday the Cook Government released the Public Knowledge Sharing Report on the Denham Renewable Hydrogen Microgrid. It is not a short read at 68 pages, but provides valuable insight and lessons to support the commercialisation of renewable hydrogen power generation.   A first-of-its-kind in Australia, this innovative project is leading the energy transition to new technologies as we work towards the State Government's commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.   Our unique integration of renewable energy and hydrogen components sets us apart, putting regional WA at the cutting edge of hydrogen application. The project includes a 704-kilowatt solar farm, a 348kW hydrogen electrolyser, and a 100kW fuel cell, providing an innovative alternative to diesel generators and offsetting 140,000 litres of diesel each year.   The knowledge we've gained through this pilot project will guide future remote uses of renewable hydrogen across WA and the rest of the nation. I am excited about the opportunities this creates for our customers and the broader communities that are traditionally powered by diesel generated microgrids.   The report can be found here: https://lnkd.in/g3p3aaqW

Off the back of the recent Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) consultation paper, it’s clear that achieving Australia's energy reliability goals requires innovative and robust solutions. One key technology that stands out is vanadium-flow batteries (VFB). VFBs are perfectly aligned with the LDES objectives, offering long-term energy storage for 8 hours or more. This capability is crucial for ensuring grid stability and supporting the transition to smart, renewable energy. But what makes vanadium batteries truly special?  ✅ Long lifespan & high efficiency: VFBs can store large amounts of energy over extended periods, making them ideal for addressing reliability gaps beyond 4 (and even 8) hours. ✅ Local & sustainable: Vanadium, the key ingredient in these batteries, is sourced and processed locally (think #FutureMadeinAustralia), providing a sustainable solution that supports our economy. We're excited that our members such as Australian Vanadium Limited, North Harbour Clean Energy, Auspac Energy are at the forefront of this innovation. Their commitment to developing and deploying VFBs is helping to drive the smart energy transition here in Australia. VFBs are more than just a technological advancement; they're a step towards a smarter, more reliable energy future. By leveraging local resources like vanadium, we can build a resilient and sustainable energy system.
