The internet and digital spaces are essential in the lives of young people today. While there are valid safety concerns, online platforms also provide vital information, connection, and community. The proposed legislation to restrict the age at which children can access social media will have a profound impact on them. However, the current debate often overlooks the voices of young people themselves, the group most affected by these changes. It's crucial that they are consulted in shaping these policies and supported through continued investment in digital literacy and safety education. 🛡️📱 Explore the Y Australia's recent submission to the Australian Government on young people and social media to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gFrV2C2p WhyNot YMCA Victoria The Y NSW YMCA Queensland Y Northern Territory The Y Ballarat The Y Whittlesea YMCA Geelong Inc. 🛡️ Intersectionality: Young People Leading the Way🛡️ In the context of Child Protection Week, it's essential to acknowledge that children’s experiences are shaped by a variety of factors—race, gender, disability, and more. Intersectionality is key to understanding these diverse experiences and creating effective child protection strategies. Young leaders today are leading the charge, advocating for approaches that ensure no child is left behind. As professionals, educators, and community members, we can support this by: 🚀Listening to diverse perspectives. 🚀Learning how intersectionality affects child protection. 🚀Acting to implement inclusive strategies in our work. Let’s champion intersectionality in child protection and build a future where every child can thrive. 🌍 #ChildProtectionWeek #Intersectionality #YouthLeadership #InclusiveProtection #EveryChildMatters #DiversityAndInclusion WhyNot YMCA Queensland The Y NSW YMCA Victoria The Y Whittlesea YMCA Geelong Inc. 🌍 Today on International Youth Day we’re proud to celebrate our national youth platform WhyNot – a tangible demonstration of this year’s theme from: Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development. 🚀✨ #InternationalYouthDay #YouthVoices #SustainableDevelopment #DigitalPathways #WhyNot #YouthEmpowerment #YAustralia
For WhyNot the theme from Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development reflects the transformative power of digital engagement in driving real-world change, particularly in the context of sustainable development. It highlights the journey from mere online interactions—"clicks"—to meaningful, impactful actions and amplification of voice that contribute to a more sustainable and equitable world. As we celebrate the United Nations International Youth Day for 2024 – we’re taking a moment to celebrate our incredible Contributors and the volunteer Editorial Committee who sit behind the platform. ✨ Amplifying Youth Voices: Over the past year, WhyNot has empowered young people across Australia and beyond to turn their digital presence into real-world impact. Through storytelling, digital activism, and innovative content, we’ve highlighted the diverse experiences and powerful perspectives of youth voice, proving that every click can be a step toward progress. ✨ Creating Safe Spaces: We’ve reinforced our commitment to safe spaces and safe storytelling, equipping our contributors with the tools and resources to share their stories in a way that is both impactful and respectful. Our Safe Storytelling Workshops have empowered young people to use their digital platforms responsibly, contributing to sustainable development through thoughtful and intentional content. ✨ Fostering Change: This year, we partnered with the likes of Raise our Voice Australia and the Y’s Youth Parliament programs to demonstrate how digital activism can influence policy and drive social change. Our contributors have not only been active online but have also successfully transformed digital discussions into concrete actions that support sustainable development goals. ✨ Building Community: The WhyNot community continues to grow, strengthened by the passion and commitment of our contributors, allies and volunteer Editorial Committee. Together, we’re creating a platform where young people can harness the power of digital media to amplify their voices and drive meaningful change. As we charge ahead, let’s turn our voices into real-world ripples and use digital platforms to shake up the planet to create a more sustainable and inclusive future 🚀 #YouthVoice #WhyNotPlatform #IYD2024 #StorytellingForChange #YouthEmpowerment #DigitalActivism #SafeStorytelling Maeson Harvey Aileen Ng Sam Duffy-Yates Megan Romanes Lauren Pollock Georgia Warner Jaime Colley Ashlee Horton Matilda Knights Alisha Nurnaitis Hamani Tanginoa Elysse McCabe Nicholas E.
