QMEA Student Ambassador and trade-enthusiast Slater joined Year 10 students from Dysart SHS in a full-day trades workshop recently. The workshop was delivered by the QMEA in partnership with BHP Mitsubishi Alliance. The Year 10 students got to sharpen their tools and their skills over the day and discover more about the great opportunities available to tradespeople in the resources sector. Thanks to BMA for sending some of their experienced tradespeople to assist the students and share their career stories. Francisca joined our team this year bringing with her over 20 years of experience as a science teacher and educational leader.  She says her passion for STEM started in high school.  “I had two inspiring teachers who encouraged me to study environmental science after school,” said Francisca.  “After completing my first degree I returned to University to become a science teacher as I wanted to share my interest in STEM with the next generation.” Francisca said she is looking forward to meeting more high school students in her role as QMEA STEM Engagement Educator.  “It is a different capacity to working in one school and I’m looking forward to the diversity of each day,” said Francisca.  “It is also exciting to be increasing the students awareness of the resources sector and the job potential it holds.” Francisca’s top tip to Year 12 students is to be flexible.    “There are many different pathways which can lead you to the same role, employer and career – so keep an open mind.” When she isn’t working, you’ll most likely find Francisca out enjoying nature.   “If I am not home there is a good chance I’m visiting Straddie (Stradbroke Island), it is my favourite place in the world.” #QMEA #QRC #Queensland #Minerals #Energy #STEM #Education

Year 10 trade-enthusiasts at Blackwater State High School had the chance to engage with experienced tradespeople from Coronado Global Resources Inc. last week as part of their Tradies for a Day workshop. Engineering, electrical circuits and earth sciences were all on the to-do list for Year 10 students at Clermont State High School joining in our STEM and Trades workshop yesterday. They got plenty of help from Glencore Coal team members who shared their knowledge and skills with the students. Brodie Ernst, our QMEA student ambassador from Kirwin State High School in Townsville, knows how to deal with pressure in a basketball game and we're sure that skill will come in handy as he completes Year 12. With International Women's Day happening on Saturday, it was fitting we deliver an all-girls Tradies for a Day workshop in Mackay this week. Twenty enthusiastic Year 10 students from four high schools gathered for a full day trade intensive - creating electrical circuits, assembling pumps and much more. Event Update: Postponed to 2 April 2025    With a forecast for severe weather events in Southeast Queensland, the 2025 Resources Awards for Women will be postponed from Friday 7 March to Wednesday 2 April 2025.    The resources sector puts safety first and the postponement of the event and forum encourages guests and staff to stay safe during this time.    We thank WIMARQ, sponsors, QRC member organisations, our suppliers and the women who work in resources for the hard work to date, and for the ongoing and support of the Awards.
