💬 “Disability is treated differently because most of us underestimate how much needs to change in order for people with disability to experience equality.“ Respecting disability rights includes an obligation to change how the world is organised so that the widest possible range of human capacities can participate in our world, writes UNSW Prof. Jackie Leach Scully. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gqrEaHeJ

Buildings are one of the biggest contributors to global heating. More than half of a new building’s lifetime emissions are embodied in material use and construction. 🏗️ 🏢 New research shows we can greatly reduce embodied carbon in Australia, but it will require radical changes in how we design, construct, use and reuse buildings. ♻️ 🔗 https://lnkd.in/geeRkWaq

💬 “Too often, those affected by disaster are not engaged in their recovery by current systems and that needs to change.” UNSW Professor David Sanderson, the Judith Neilson Chair in Architecture, has founded HowWeSurvive.com to improve disaster recovery through community-centred approaches that prioritises the needs of people affected by events such as bushfires and floods. The long-term independent initiative aims to instil active engagement and participation with local communities in all disaster recovery and resilience efforts. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/g_9W5bh8
