About us
The CAD initiative supports the development of clearer and more consistent policies on connected and automated driving in EU Member States. We capture the expectations and concerns of users, public authorities and providers of technology, infrastructure or mobility services. We foster public-private collaboration and we support the alignment of national action plans, European and international activities in the field of automated driving, towards development and deployment of ART. For this, the ARCADE Coordination and Support Action, which is part of the CAD initiative, offers associated partnership status. Do you represent expert groups or the automated driving industry? Are you an active policy, legal or insurance expert or have you participated in previous research or test field initiatives on automated driving? Then the associate partner status is interesting for you!

Our project coordinator Maria Pia Fanti (Politecnico di Bari), recently discussed with #CORDIS the latest insights about our project and our mission to make transportation safer, more sustainable and inclusive. #IN2CCAM is advancing CCAM by designing and developing physical, digital and operational infrastructure. From smart traffic management and advances road sensors to automated shuttles and last-mile solutions, our work is being tested in real-world environments in Tampere, Trikala, Turin and Vigo, and also through simulations and emulations in Quadrilatero (Portugal), and Bari. Beyond technology, we're also working with regulators to streamline EU-wide testing frameworks—a crucial step toward widespread adoption of automated mobility solutions. “Because much of the infrastructure we are designing is safety-critical, the rules and regulations for validating it are very strict" 💡 Want to learn more? 🎇 With more than 80 participants, FAME’s Third Stakeholder Workshop has been a huge success! Held on 24 March in Brussels, Belgium and organized by the #FAMEProject, the event was a great opportunity to exchange on #LessonsLearned and #BestPractices within the #CCAM Research and Innovation community at large. We are truly thankful to those who helped make this event a reality! 🟢 We thank Suzanna Kraak (#DGRTD), who provided an insightful presentation the #SocietalReadinessIndex 🟢 We thank our panellists, representing CCAM projects AI4CCAM, AUGMENTED CCAM, AWARE2ALL, Diversify-CCAM, metaCCAZE Project, CCAM SUNRISE project, and ULTIMO project for sharing openly their challenges encountered during implementation, the derived lessons learnt, and potential synergies in preparation for future large-scale demonstrations. 🟢 We also want to express our deepest thanks to all presenters and participants in our breakout sessions, which have been characterized by rich and dynamic exchanges, truly in the spirit of FAME’s objective of providing a long-term #CoordinationFramework for R&I and large-scale #Testing and evaluation activities in Europe 👉 Societal acceptance 👉International cooperation 👉Data and Vehicle Technologies 📣 To sum up, we fully embrace the words of Andrea De Candido, (#DGRTD), which concluded: "The workshop fulfilled its objective of bringing all CCAM projects together and making them all feel part of a big endeavour, which fits the goals of the 𝐂𝐂𝐀𝐌 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩", and thus of FAME as its Coordination & Support Action. 👏 #FAME thanks AUGMENTED CCAM Project for a very interesting panel discussion, as well as the useful insights and lessons learnt shared during the workshop
🚀 Reflecting on the 3rd FAME Stakeholder Workshop! 🚀 Today, 70 participants gathered to discuss key challenges, lessons learned, and collaboration opportunities in the field of Physical and Digital Infrastructure (PDI) for CCAM. 💡 Main Takeaways: 🔹 The research phase proved particularly complex, requiring the consolidation and prioritization of all applicable PDI for CCAM while considering diverse vehicle requirements—an aspect often overlooked in past approaches. 🔹 The deployment of Traffic Management Optimization solutions (leveraging CAV data) presented significant challenges, particularly in defining a realistic and evidence-based validation approach. 🔹 The project contributed to addressing a key research gap by defining the requirements for digital twins and HD maps with the necessary level of detail for different applications. 🔹 Establishing a comprehensive impact assessment framework that covers safety, efficiency, and broader mobility implications remains an ongoing effort. 🔹 A crucial lesson learned is that end-user perspectives (e.g., road infrastructure operators) should be both the starting and ending point of any development. Without this, solutions risk misalignment with real-world needs. 🤝 Cross-learnings & Collaboration: A recurring theme across CCAM projects is the absence of an "established" truth. From initial expectations to technical specifications and validation methods, ambiguity remains a major challenge. This reinforces the need for strong collaboration across sectors and disciplines. 📌 Looking Ahead: 🔸 Extending project durations could allow for a broader validation spectrum and more robust findings. 🔸 Future CCAM projects should ensure a well-balanced and complementary consortium from the outset, covering all critical aspects internally rather than relying on external collaborations, which remain highly uncertain in this evolving domain. A big thank you to all participants for the engaging discussions and valuable insights! #FAME #CCAM #SmartMobility #Innovation #Collaboration 🚗💡🌍 CCAM Association Thierry Goger
