DISCO Project
Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain and Storage
We are a Horizon Europe project supporting cities in bringing forth a new generation of urban logistics.
About us
It is clear: increasing greenhouse emissions represent one of the most significant global challenges we face today - and the way we deliver our goods and move around the city plays a massive role in this. In comes our uniquely named project DISCO, funded by the Horizon Europe programme, which aims to support cities in undertaking the digital transformation of urban logistics and sustainable planning and to optimally manage urban space. What does DISCO stand for? ‘Data-driven, Integrated, Syncromodal, Collaborative and Optimised urban freight meta-model for a new generation of urban logistics and planning with data sharing at European Living Labs’. But do not let the long name scare you! Our aim is simple: we wish to support the EU mission cities to achieve their climate goals by 2030, letting our living spaces breathe new life away from air pollutants. How? DISCO will drive EU Cities towards Physical Internet by demonstrating 23 flagship solutions on optimal and flexible use of urban space for logistics in 8 European Living Labs, including: ● Copenhagen (DK) ● Ghent (BE) ● Thessaloniki (EL) ● Helsinki (FI) ● Padua (IT), ● and a Spanish Cluster consisting of Barcelona, Valencia, and Zaragoza (ES). But that is not all! 4 Follower Cities also join the projects, and they are: ● Prague (CZ) ● Piacenza (IT) ● Aarhus (DK) ● North Hesse (DE) We will do this over the course of 42 months, with a consortium consisting of a whooping 47 partners! For all of our updates, follow this page and become a part of our journey towards a new generation of urban logistics.

👏 Our own Paola Cossu and Paola Astegiano form FIT Consulting srl wrote an interesting article on smart and flexible curbside management. 🔍 The article focuses on the 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐂𝐎𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐁 innovation, which enables the smart and flexible use of curbside for parking slots, pick-up points, and network management. It will be implemented in the cities of Københavns Kommune, Forum Virium Helsinki, Barcelona City Council, Comune di Padova within the DISCO project. 📘It is published in the latest issue of 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝, the quarterly magazine of the European Parking Association. 👇You can read it here, pages 28-30. https://lnkd.in/eAS6zPVi #HorizonEU, #lastmilelogistics, #zeroemission, #sustainablemobility

📌 How can digital innovation transform urban freight logistics to make cities more liveable and transport more efficient? This was the key question explored during the session "𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗨𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀" at RTR Conference 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, co-moderated by Dr. Yanying Li (ALICE) and Yannick Bousse (CINEA). The session brought together leading EU-funded projects: SENATOR, UNCHAIN, DISCO, URBANE, DECARBOMILE, and GREEN-LOG, each addressing major challenges in urban logistics, from data-driven decision-making to zero-emission last-mile deliveries. Key takeaways: ✅ 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: SENATOR Project showcased its Smart Network Operator Platform, designed to help city governments and logistics operators optimise urban freight policies through data-driven governance models. ✅ 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱: UNCHAIN Project is developing digital tools to predict urban freight flows, supporting smarter and more sustainable logistics planning. ✅ 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: DISCO Project is leading a new meta-model for urban freight, enabling synchromodal, collaborative and optimised logistics through European Living Labs. ✅ 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: URBANE Project is upscaling multi-actor collaboration and Physical Internet-inspired last-mile delivery solutions to accelerate green logistics. ✅ 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲: DECARBOMILE presented its five-pillar approach to reducing emissions in last-mile delivery. ✅ 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀: GREEN-LOG is working on collaborative, digital solutions to enable efficient, emissions-free last-mile logistics. 🔍 A key theme across all discussions was the power of digitalisation, collaboration and interoperability to make urban freight more sustainable. Challenges such as data standardisation, stakeholder engagement, and the role of emerging technologies such as Digital Twins and blockchain in policy making were also addressed. 💡 ALICE is committed to driving innovation in sustainable urban logistics, and we look forward to collaborating with stakeholders to leverage impacts of these solutions on decarbonising urban mobility and enhancing competitiveness of Europe. 🔗 Did you attend the session?
