With Africa expected to become the world’s youngest continent, our projects in Rwanda, Guinea and Morocco are tapping into this creative potential to drive urban sustainability. 🚧 In Rwanda, innovation is paving the way-literally! Through the Belgium-funded urban development programme, 11.5 km of asphalt roads in Rwamagana and Rubavu districts are transforming communities, creating jobs, boosting private sector development, and enhancing user safety. 🌍 The 4.6 km Rubavu road is a game-changer for cross-border trade with DR Congo, while a dedicated 1.3 km lane for non-motorized transport advances accessibility for those without motorized vehicles and people with disabilities. More than roads, they’re bridges to opportunities and inclusion. --- 🚧 Au Rwanda, le programme de développement urbain financé par la Belgique a permis de construire 11,5 km de routes goudronnées dans les districts de Rwamagana et de Rubavu, transformant les communautés, créant des emplois, stimulant le développement du secteur privé et améliorant la sécurité des usagers. 🌍 Les 4,6 km de route de Rubavu changent la donne pour le commerce transfrontalier avec la République démocratique du Congo, tandis qu'une voie réservée aux transports non motorisés de 1,3 km améliore l'accessibilité pour les personnes non motorisées et les personnes en situation de handicap. 🌍 Un vent de durabilité souffle sur l’agriculture en Mauritanie 🌾 A travers le programme RIMFIL, financé par l’L'Union Européenne (UE) et mis en œuvre par Enabel, 295 organisations agricoles reçoivent un soutien pour renforcer la sécurité alimentaire et la durabilité dans le sud de la Mauritanie. 🌍 Happy to be in Washington this week for the 2024 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group. In this context, Enabel organised an insightful side-event yesterday, together with Expertise France, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH and SNV as members of the Practitioners' Network for European Development Cooperation, and The World Bank to discuss the importance of jointly strengthening our collaboration in fragile, low-income contexts. 🤝 Staying engaged and addressing the root causes of fragility is essential, while delivering on our collective ambition to reach the SDGs. 🎯 🗣️ As our CEO Jean Van Wetter mentioned “The cost of inaction is higher than staying engaged. 🏢 Urbanization is one of the greatest challenges of our time, particularly in the rapidly growing cities of Sub-Saharan Africa. But what if collaboration was the key to tackle these complex challenges? 🎤 Yesterday, as part of our #CocreatingCities event (21-24/10), we hosted an inspiring conference in our office in Brussels, gathering urban planners, policymakers, and experts from around the globe. Together, we exchanged innovative ideas on addressing urban challenges—from green spaces to gender-transformative cities, spatial justice, and the role of the private sector in inclusive development. 🗣️ “How do we want to live? What vision do we have for the cities of tomorrow?" These are the key questions we explored, focused on co-creating sustainable and inclusive cities. As Gabriella Gomez-Mont reminded us, “We need to connect to our imaginaries, away from technocratic solutions. Untap the talent of citizens.
