🌍✨ At Rikolto, we are committed to creating inclusive markets that ensure a #DignifiedIncome for small-scale producers of vegetables, coffee, and cocoa. In Sololá, Guatemala, we are proud to support the CORCI Association in their journey to access international markets. We achieve this through professionalisation and innovative technologies specifically designed to meet the needs of CORCI. 🌱💻 Watch the video to learn more! 🌳 In Ecuador, we've completed training workshops on the European Union Regulation for Deforestation Free Products (#EUDR) in Ecuador. Over 100 participants from the #coffee and #cocoa sectors gained valuable knowledge and skills to comply with this new regulation. 🌱The EUDR is an opportunity for producers to transition to more sustainable practices, improve their livelihoods and access new markets. By complying with the EUDR, producers can build on their commitment to responsible sourcing and contribute to a more sustainable future. 🙌 Through the #CREA project, we're working with European Union partners and local stakeholders such as Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Payment by Results and Heifer International to prepare the coffee and cocoa sectors for the EUDR. Our efforts include ➡️ Providing training and capacity building to producers ➡️ Supporting the development of sustainable production systems ➡️ Supporting regional initiatives such as the designation of origin for Loja coffee ➡️ And we are part of the Cocoa Coalition, supporting the management of the Inter-Institutional Committee on Sustainable Production. 🌱 Fighting climate change with carbon accounting? Through the “Carbon Farmers” project, Lidl België & Luxemburg, Boerenbond, BoerenNatuur, Rikolto and the Bodemkundige Dienst van België vzw empower Belgian farmers with a crucial tool: carbon accounting. 📈 Tracking how the soil management of the farm translates into CO2 emissions, but also how much carbon they are capturing in their soils in a spreadsheet, allows farmers to take targeted actions to reduce CO2 and nitrous oxide emissions. 🍃🌻 Planting cover crops, expanding hedgerows and planting flower strips are some the practices that help farmers take care of our planet. ➡️ Learn more about how carbon accounting is guiding farmers towards a sustainable agriculture and a sustainable future here: https://lnkd.in/ejAm3jzB #sustainablefoodsystems #carbonstorage #carbonaccounting #climatechange #sustainableagriculture

The recent World Food Forum highlighted the critical role of family farming in addressing global challenges. At Rikolto, we're working to collaborate and advocate for investment in Local and Traditional Food Markets (LTFMs) and Public Food Procurement (PFP) to ensure access to safe, nutritious food for the majority consumers and support the livelihoods of farmers and SMEs in the food sector. Both , LTFMs and PFP, can be considered as public goods and local city governments hold all the cards to make them successful. Together with partners such as FAO, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and many others, we aim to accelerate change towards more sustainable and inclusive food systems. #WorldFoodForum #FamilyFarming #LTFMs #PFP

🌾 From Kayes to Koulikoro, from Ségou to Sikasso, the sustainable rice movement is gaining ground across Mali! This month, farmers from different communes gathered for the annual meeting of the #ParticipatoryGuaranteeSystem certification committees, which oversee the organic certification process for the #PGS #organiclabel and monitor the progress of farmers who have recently committed to the journey. 💪🙌 In partnership with humundi and Malian Association for Solidarity and Development (#AMSD), we are working on several initiatives to: 👌 enable smallholder farmers to certify organic rice locally through the Participatory Guarantee System (PGS). 👌 promote the choice of organic rice through awareness-raising workshops, a local organic market and advocacy to engage governments on sustainable production and consumption. Scroll through the images below to see what we have achieved in 2023! 👇 Read more about it in this article 👉 https://rikol.to/PGSMali 📸 Photo credits: AMSD #SustainableRice #OrganicRice #Mali #FoodSecurity #Agroecology #SustainableAgriculture #LocalMarkets #OrganicCertification #HealthyEating

📍 Last week, our international team of communications and fundraising colleagues - fondly known as the "FunCommies" - gathered in Leuven, Belgium, for an intensive yet inspiring week. 🌍 💡 Over five days, our colleagues from East Africa, West Africa, South East Asia, Latin America and Europe evaluated their current projects and set communication objectives for the next 2 years to contribute to Rikolto's mission - ensuring a sustainable income for farmers and providing nutritious, affordable food for all. 💡 They even took time to explore how AI can transform communication! What makes Rikolto’s network truly special is the richness of perspectives brought by local teams and the shared commitment to transforming food systems globally. Does your team have a unique identity that drives creativity? 💬 We'd love to hear about it in the comments! #GlobalTeams Citra Savitri Irene Salvi Ine Tollenaers David Minja Heleen Verlinden Natalia Palomino Jelle Goossens Chloé Van Uytven Nina Pattyn Gabriella A.
