About us
European Global Ocean Observing System, EuroGOOS, identifies priorities, enhances cooperation and promotes the benefits of operational oceanography to ensure sustained observations are made in Europe’s seas underpinning a suite of fit-for-purpose products and services for marine and maritime end-users. EuroGOOS is the European component of the Global Ocean Observing System of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC GOOS). EuroGOOS is registered as an international non-profit association under Belgian law (EuroGOOS AISBL) and its Secretariat is located in Brussels. Today, EuroGOOS brings together 42 members from 19 European countries providing operational oceanographic services and carrying out marine research. In addition, EuroGOOS coordinates five regional operational systems in Europe: in the Arctic (Arctic ROOS), the Baltic (BOOS), the European North-West Shelf (NOOS) and the Ireland-Biscay-Iberian area (IBI-ROOS), as well as the Mediterranean (MONGOOS). Strong cooperation within these regions enables the involvement of many more partners and countries. This forms the basis of the EuroGOOS work and is combined with high-level representation at European and global forums. EuroGOOS working groups and networks of marine observing platforms (task teams) deliver strategies, priorities and standards towards an integrated, sustained and fit-for-purpose European Ocean Observing System (EOOS).

🌊 Introducing the "Architecture Guide" by #OceanPredictionDCC🌍 We’re thrilled to announce the release of OceanPrediction DCC Architecture Guide – a comprehensive resource on building interoperable ocean forecasting systems. 🔧 This interactive guide identifies the essential tools, data standards, and the “wiring” needed to develop one of these systems. It aims to facilitate its development by: - Providing detailed wiring diagrams on how these systems are internally built - Promoting interoperable architectures, taking advantage of the Digital Twining concept. - Identifying the common tools and data standards to be developed and implemented. By adopting this architecture, institutions worldwide can implement robust, interoperable services that will be easier to maintain, enhancing ocean forecasting capabilities globally. This guide is designed for the #OceanPredictionDCC community with the support of Foresea, DITTO, and Ocean Practices Decade programmes, but its impact will resonate with all organizations striving to improve operational oceanography for societal benefit. 🌐 🔗 Find the Achitecture Guide here: https://shorturl.at/EKaaU #OceanPredictionDCC #OceanForecasting #Oceanography #Interoperability #Innovation #OceanDecade #Sustainability #OperationalOceanography #SustainableDevelopment #OceanScience #SDG14

🏫 🌊 Applications for the Network of European Blue Schools are now open! Starting this school year, we’re introducing three levels of certification to recognize the varying levels of engagement and commitment from participating schools: 🔹 Blue School (Entry Level) 🔹 Aquamarine Blue School (Intermediate Level) 🔹 Ultramarine Blue School (Advanced Level) How does it work ❓ Schools already certified or applying for the first time can stay in the Network indefinitely. But as our program evolves, we encourage schools to re-apply each year, especially if they're continuing or developing new projects. This can help schools achieve a higher certification level! Join the Network of #EUBlueSchools and be part of a community dedicated to preserving our precious marine ecosystems 🐙. Discover: 📚 Educational resources 📅 Events 🧩 Projects 🤝 Partnership opportunities Applications open until ⏰ 15 December.
