Real Change. At Scale
About us
Delterra is an environmental nonprofit on a mission to create a world where human activities protect and restore a healthy planet. Delterra’s founding partner is McKinsey & Company, and its flagship initiative, Rethinking Recycling, works with communities in emerging economies to build rapidly scalable, self-sustaining waste management and recycling ecosystems, that redirect waste into productive use while improving the lives of the people it touches. Rethinking Recycling is on track to bring recycling and waste management services to over 250,000 people in Indonesia and Argentina by 2022, most of whom had no access to recycling solutions before. Its programs have achieved recycling rates of up to 60%, which is higher than those of most US cities. To date, it has improved the livelihoods of more than 450 waste workers, many of whom are marginalized women. In the coming years, Delterra’s goal is to scale Rethinking Recycling to countries across Asia, Latin America and Africa, and add other programs to its portfolio with a view to develop innovative scalable solutions that redesign human systems for the good of people and the planet. Something remarkable is happening in the Brazilian city of #Guaxupé. Long renowned for its high-quality coffee production, the city is now building a reputation in a different area—the #circulareconomy. In a brand-new pilot with Delterra, the city has already seen an extraordinary 3.5x increase in the volume of recyclables recovered weekly. 🔊 Exciting news from #Argentina! We are thrilled to announce a new collaboration with the city of #Rafaela in Santa Fe. 🇦🇷 Delterra has signed an agreement with Mayor Leonardo Viotti and Enrique Sofietti, Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development, to boost waste recovery and promote circularity for the community. Partnering with the Climate & Clean Air Coalition and Global Methane Hub, we're kicking off efforts here to: ✅ improve compostable organic waste management, ✅ cut down greenhouse gas emissions, ✅ provide guidance in various aspects of integrated municipal solid waste management, ✅ create baseline studies, diagnose issues and design solutions to improve waste recovery. A city with a long-term vision for waste management, Rafaela is already looking ahead with initiatives like Recycling Technology Park, says Enrique Sofietti. This is a space where waste management companies can transform waste into new materials. The first step? A comprehensive initial diagnosis and baseline, Delterra's Project Lead Sebastián Ratero explains. This will guide the project's next development stages. So stay tuned! #globalmethanehub #CCAC #UNenvironment #circularity #organics #netzero

A good read in the lead up to INC5 if you're following the growing push for a legally binding #plasticstreaty and efforts to create uniform regulations worldwide. This Forbes article highlights the critical juncture we're at in the fight against #plasticpollution and the recognition by hundreds of organizations, such as those in the Business For A Plastics Treaty, of which Delterra is a member, that voluntary efforts alone won't suffice. My takeaways: 🟢There’s hope for a robust treaty that supports collaboration and paves the way for a circular economy, benefiting both our planet and the economy. 🌱✨ 🟢A comprehensive treaty that includes design rules and phases out harmful chemicals and unrecyclable plastics is essential to tackle the root causes of pollution. 🟢This global agreement could simplify compliance for multinationals and ensure equitable contributions from all stakeholders. Having participated in the last 3 INC sessions, I am cautiously optimistic as I look forward to INC5. Please reach out if you'd like to connect with Delterra there.

♻ We are excited to have kicked off our partnership with Ministry of Education of the City fo Buenos Aires #CABA focusing on environmental action in schools! 🏁Our #Delterra Behavior Change team led a workshop where nearly 400 students and 40 educators came together to drive cultural change toward a more sustainable and circular future. The workshop was part of the "Inspire, Connect, Act Festival" where students developed innovative ideas on environmental care and circularity. Mayor Jorge Macri and Deputy Mayor Clara Muzzio were there to hear the students' proposals. The event concluded with an inspiring talk by renowned environmentalist #JaneGoodall as part of her visit to Argentina. ✔Be sure to follow tuned with Delterra more updates on this educational campaign in schools! #escuelasverdes #greenschools #circularcities #behaviorchange #caba #education #backtoschool
